CChapter One — The Man in the Truck
The first rule of the dating app was simple: never use it yourself.
I had broken that rule exactly three hundred and sixty-two days ago.
Now I sat in the passenger seat of a semi truck with a stranger named Sebastian, wondering how my life had somehow brought me here.
Outside the windshield, people hurried through the parking lot of my workplace, completely unaware that I was sitting beside a six-foot-something truck driver with kind eyes and a smile I couldn't stop noticing.
"You okay?" he asked.
I looked at him.
It was such a simple question.
Nobody had asked me that in a long time.
"Yeah," I lied.
Sebastian didn't call me on it. He just nodded, resting one hand on the steering wheel.
And somehow, that made the lie hurt more.
For a year, I'd secretly built a dating app because some ridiculous, hopelessly romantic part of me still believed love was supposed to feel different than this.
I'd just never expected someone to walk into my life and make me wonder if I'd been right all along
