Chapter 1
Selene had always thought that ranch hands were too rough to be any kind of good to a woman. But that was before she met Colt. Before she'd felt his strong embrace, holding her as her world crashed around her. They were surrounded by a Texas dust storm, but she'd never felt safer.
Colt looked down at her his eyes hard on hers. They were too close. He held her up by her waist, her body leaning into his firm one. His hat touched her forehead slightly, there noses nearly brushing.
Meanwhile behind them, the horses were running around skittish and furious as the last of the homestead left. They were leaving. Leaving her alone, to deal with this ranch by herself. To deal with the cattle, and the ranch hands all alone.
Her father had left her, alone. Following his mistress and her son. The son that should've been the savior of the ranch but had instead taken most of its profits and left. As if he was owed that much for ever daring to spare her his name.
But she'd never take his name.
Not if he came back.
Not if he begged.
They thought if they left her alone, she would fail.
That she would bring the ranch down to its very foundation.
She would prove them all wrong.
She didn't need them.
Not with the hidden inheritance that was somewhere in the ranch.
Somewhere to be found...
