Chapter 1: Poisoner
Wisteria
He kept coughing blood, endlessly. Remorse flooded my heart even though I had done this a thousand times. A part of me wanted to run out of here, or let myself drop to the ground and pull out my material to make an antidote. But I could do no such thing. I had to keep in mind that this was not my fault.
I just made the poison, I did not kill him...
"Why are you standing still?!" Martha screamed at me. "Move."
I didn't budge.
"Why did you take me here?" I asked. "Why did you make me stay?" I asked, taking my eyes off that dying man.
"I thought it would be good for you to witness the real effects of your creations. You are never willing to come and whenever you do, you run away as soon as your victim's face turns pale." She said, shaking her heard slowly with disdain. "A real poisoner has to face his acts, and if you don't, how will you know your poison did its job?"
She smiled, something so odd to do in such a situation. But that was how Martha was. The poisoner to whom I belonged, and if I hated what I was forced to do, she enjoyed every bit of it.
I walked out, then I started running. She called me but I did not stop. Once I was far enough, I materialized my wings and deployed them.
For some minutes I felt alive again, feeling the cold air brushing my skin and finally flying after hiding my wings for so long. I watched as fairy dust fell from my wings, glittering around. I felt like a beautiful creature, but most importantly, I felt free.
However, this was just an illusion of freedom. Just like a bird flying in a cage.
Martha had not followed me, not only because she did not have wings but because she knew I could go nowhere. I could not run or fly away from her. I was her poisoner and that didn't just keep me trapped in her lair, making poison for her. It made me trapped in my own skin, a skin I recognized less with each passing day.
