Chapter 1

When human efforts reach their absolute limits, and every door is slammed shut in your face, the only anchor left is silence. Khalil had run until his legs could no longer carry him. He had begged healers, spent his hard-earned savings on countless doctors, and spent sleepless nights weeping for his youngest daughter, Liza. But Liza’s body continued to reject even plain water, throwing up violently alongside excruciating stomach pain. Exhausted, emotionally drained, and defeated by a destiny he could not comprehend, Khalil stopped running. He looked up at the heavens and left everything completely in the hands of Almighty Allah. He sat down in absolute silence, anchoring his daughter’s fate to God. But little did he know, the test was now turning its cruel gaze directly onto him.

The Shivering Winter and Hidden Agony

Slowly, Khalil began withdrawing from the world. The man who used to be the life of every family gathering, the uncle who kept his cousins and brothers united, completely stopped attending any social functions or family events. A dark, terrifying pain had taken root inside his stomach. He tried every medicine available in the city, visited every reputable hakeem, took heavy prescriptions from modern doctors, and sat through endless prayers of spiritual babas. Yet, the relief never came.

When winter arrived, the torment reached its peak. The stomach pain would strike him like a physical blow, bringing along a chilling wave of severe hypothermia. The cold would seize his body so aggressively that he would shiver uncontrollably, groaning in agonizing pain. His children, now young adults aged twenty, nineteen, eighteen, and sixteen, would freeze with terror seeing their heroic father so helpless. They would rush to his side, piling every single heavy blanket and winter quilt in the house over him. They would sit around his bed for hours, gently massaging his aching hands and legs, tearfully reciting holy verses from the Quran, begging God to ease their father’s suffering. After two grueling hours, the violent shivers would slowly subside, leaving behind an exhausted, dull ache.

Yet, despite his shattering health, the very next morning Khalil would force his weak body out of bed to go to the construction site. His family would beg him to rest, but he would whisper with unconditional warmth, “If I do not labor, my pieces of heart, what will we eat? How will we manage the household expenses?”

A Broken Tradition and a Son’s Sacrifice

In Khalil’s extended family, there was a strict, unwritten rule: daughters were not allowed to pursue higher education. However, their mother had fought bravely against these orthodox norms, stubbornly ensuring that the two eldest daughters at least cleared their matriculation exams. But because of their limited school education, the girls could not find proper professional jobs in the competitive city.

Watching their father slowly kill himself under the brutal sun, the daughters couldn’t sit idly by. They went to Khalil, their eyes filled with tears, begging, “Papa, please let us work. Let us do something, anything, to share this financial burden. We cannot watch you suffer like this anymore.”

Khalil looked at his beautiful daughters, his eyes softening with that familiar, intense love. He touched their heads and said, “My beautiful daughters, my life, I am still alive. I am your father. It is my duty to provide you with every luxury and comfort in this world. I can never bear to see you under the scorching sun or facing any hardship. You are my life, my jaan. How can I ever let my life labor while I breathe?” The daughters fell silent, their hearts heavy with respect and grief.

The Unseen Threat

(Yahan se suspense shuru hota hai)

As the heavy night silence settled once again over the small house, Khalil sat alone in the dark, clutching his stomach as a cold sweat broke across his forehead. He stared at his trembling, calloused hands, noticing a strange, faint discoloration beginning to creep underneath his skin—something he had hidden from everyone. He knew his body was breaking, but he closed his eyes and whispered a silent prayer, completely unaware that a much bigger, unseen storm was already knocking on their door, waiting to change their lives forever...
