Chapter 1: Betrayed Queen
War has brought the warrior and his wife, the Queen of Trallan, to the border of the great empire. Fleets of ships engaged in a 6 mouth battle over the Trallan home have been a stalemate, and either side refuses to surrender.
On board the Trallan capital ship Queen Ann has been playing her role well, but her crew grew tired, and with no end in site there remaneing ships are pushed on the defence as the Empire closes in, not letting up. Their goal is to force the Trallans to surrender and join forces against the Human fleet that has been resistant to their engagements after the Empire threatened Earth’s destruction.
Ann wants no part of this war herself, and as Queen, she’s forced into her title at a young age. She wants peace for her kind but is torn between duty and her personal feelings.
Ann is aware the Trallan alliance isn’t on good terms with the Humans either; after trade agreements failed and corrupt officials on both sides closed off borders, Ann ordered her fleet to fire at will, running out of options as the Empire’s dreadnought opened fire on her ship. Damage was minimal; one crew member reported as the ship jolted a bit from the attack. Ann’s husband stood beside her on the bridge; he was fixed on the screen and realized something as he looked around. He then said We can’t win.
The bridge went silent. Ann was not moved and said Return fire! Both ships danced in a battle of strength, but the capital ship was not designed for combat and soon started to falter, while the dreadnought suffered more damage; she was far too powerful and started firing on critical systems, weakening the capital ship into a death spiral towards the home world,
Alarms blared on the bridge. Ann was now trying to hold her composure when her husband said All hands, abandon ship! Ann looked and nodded as the crew ran to the nearest escape pod. The system AI rang in, saying, “Warning: Core breach detected.” Ann was horrified, as they had only minutes now to escape. Her husband stood on the bridge, looking out the window and said Go save yourself; I’ll stay here and by you time,
Ann screamed, ” No, you can’t; we have a... He cut her off and pinned a transponder on her chest and said I was never meant to be yours! We have no time to find your true husband, the one spoken of by our sage. Ann was morafyed and said, “You are the...” He looked away and said, “Charlet, set remming speed, course: dreadnought!” Activate self-destruct on impact! Ann’s eyes widened; she knew what he was doing and said No as Queen, belay that order! The AI replayed Athorty Earror can not complay.
Her husban smiled blood ran his face and he said Find Captain Andrew Blacks of the Human Alliance! with that Ann was onbored ashuttle as hes was forcibly transported and scramed out, out the shuttles window she say the to ships clide and the impact was folled by a deathing exloston that shook the shulle vilonty, sending it hearling out of controll in a unknown draction, Ann hit her head on the consoll and was out cold.
The explosion was so powerful the Empres fleet lost most of its ships and withdrew from the system. Debris from both ships rained down onto the home would drstrying citys and causing chaos; millions were killed, and the Trallan alliance was crippled, most thot the queen was lost; the few survivors didn’t know what to do. Days later, the Empire returned, and the home would surrender without a single shot fired.
No one knew Ann was still alive, but barely. The shuttle was severely damaged and drifting at high speeds out on a collision course towards the human-controlled space, and Ann had no idea she was heading right into the enemy’s hands. Ann was 4 foot 3″ long wight hair, and her robes were stained with blood from the battle. Ann woke up with a spilttling head ack and alarms blaring in the console. She was in pain and said Send out a distress call! The AI chimed in and said Saturation not... Ann swore and said, ” Just do it, you stupid AI. I’m Queen today, or I’ll rip your PCU out myself!
The AI confirmed her authority and replied with system failure: PCU removal not advised. Ann chuckled, holding her side. Stupid AI, stupid AI. The AI agreed with a neutral tone, saying this system is only navigation-assisted and serves no intelligent purpose.
Ann said ok smart ass, tell we were the hell we are? The AI replied with Currently adrift, toward human-colonized space, unable to change course due to engine damage.
Ann let out a long sigh and said we I’m leaving one war right into another grave. This has been a hell of a day. At this point, the AI chip said you’ve been unconscious for 3 days; we are no longer in Trallan space, the distress beacon is damaged, shields offline, power levels at 32% and falling. Life support is currently stable. Vassle will be uninhabitable in 72hours at the current power loss rate.
Ann stared and looked out the window as the shuttle moved thow space. She was unsure if she survived, and what bothered her most was why her husband betrayed her without so much as a reason. He looked calm and knew something; his eyes toward her wore not love but knowing, and what bothered her was what he knew and why. Ann wasn’t sure the Trallan she married 50 years ago had changed, and that some old story a corrupt sage spouted long ago was his reason to end their relationship.
What bothered her most is He not ones touched her or held her in any way; it was always formal when they were together, and no affection. A tear ran down Ann’s cheek as she remembered, but still she wished he had at least held her just once before he sent her off.
Ann soon drifted off to sleep as exhaustion claimed her body, and the Shuttle was on a collision course towards a human freight. Call the KRT Legend of the End, or as The Crew nicknamed it, Enday. Enday’s Captain was a veteran Captain who helped his command for 23 long years at her helm and had seen wars, fought gruelling battles and survived 6 planetary bombardments. He was tall at 6 feet and covered in scars, quiet, and knew how to draw command without needing to speak. His crew respected him, and he was the type of man who walked into a room and silenced it without needing to speak.
Andrew was on his bridge reading logs on his pad when his helmsman spoke and said Sir emey ship detacted aproching fast. Andrew raised an eyebrow, and his 2nd officer, who knew Andrew well and was his friend, spoke and said Prepare for engagement, Andrew returned to his pad unconcerned, and this 2nd officer, Dave, knew all too well what Andrew was thinking and said Hold course.
The helms officer spoke and said ships with in visuel range ore scenters scanded the shuttle, Sir its Trallan one life sign onbord, Andrew put down his pad and Dave looked over at him then said A trallan ship this far out why?
Another officer said Caption that Shuttle has severe battle damage and won’t last long. It’s also on a collision course and moving rapidly, Sir. I believe the shuttle has no control of its heading. Dave was about to speak when Andrew stood up and said Stand down battle alert; tractor beam the shuttle into Hangar 1. Andrew returned to his pad as if it was a normal day.
Dave didn’t question his order and repeated it. Ann’s Shuttle said still inside the hangar of the human vessel, unaware she was in the one place she was trying not to end up, but had no idea her late husband knew more than she did and was about to find out why.
Dave reported the shuttle scare in the hangar and said Sir its a Trallan ship. Is this wise? Andrew stood up and said prehaps not, he lift the bridge in silence.
Ann woke up to silence; the shuttle was stilling, and she said she was in a hangar of some kind. It was definitely military-style, and dull movement outside brought alarted her, but she was still injured and worse. The IA was offline, and the shuttle door slowly opened, revealing a Human. Ann’s eyes went wide as she spoke and said ohh hell no. Andrew, who was looking right at Ann, didn’t speak her language, but he was unarmed and placed a translator on the console next to Ann. He knew she was royalty and immediately exiled the Shuttle.
He said to the officer next to him Cold blue! Seal off the hangar at once; no one’s to enter. Do not approach that ship; exit all crew. Forget what you saw. The officer’s face went cold; he knew this was not good, and Andrew returned to the bridge. Dave said What did you find?
Andrew said Purge all systems of that shuttle; we made no contact; the vessel self-destructed; no survivors, cause unknown, unknown vessel. Andrew sat down, and Dave had a feeling something spooked him.
