How to become an immortal

The night Hitsuya Kagaya was born, the stars disappeared.

For thirteen seconds, the entire world fell silent.

No stars.

No moonlight.

No wind.

Even he insects stopped making noise.

Then, one by one, the stars returned.

But something had changed.

High above the clouds, seven stars remained strangely bright.

An old woman stood beside a newborn child.

She stared at the sky with tears in her eyes.

“So it has begun.”

The baby opened his eyes.

They were not the eyes of an ordinary child.

For a fraction of a second, they glowed silver.

Then they returned to normal.

The woman quickly wrapped the baby in a blanket.

Behind her, another child slept peacefully.

Her name was Tiduka Rika.

She was the baby’s cousin.

The old woman looked at both children.

“Forgive me.”

She knew that one day they would ask questions.

Who were their parents?

Why had they been brought to her?

Why did strange people sometimes appear in the village searching for them?

And most importantly...

Why had the stars disappeared when Hitsuya was born?

She prayed they would never discover the answer.

Because the answer could destroy the universe
