Chapter 1
Ella had always been a dreamer.
At twenty-four, she had a stable job, a small apartment filled with plants, and a collection of books she rarely had enough time to read. Yet there was one thing she had kept since she was sixteen—a small blue notebook.
On its first page were three words:
ELLА’S WISHLIST
Underneath were twenty-five things.
Some were simple.
Watch the sunrise.
Have a picnic under the stars.
Learn to dance.
Travel somewhere I’ve never been.
Ride a bicycle beside the sea.
Take a spontaneous road trip.
Others were more daring.
Go camping.
Try something completely outside my comfort zone.
See snow.
And one particular item made her smile every time she read it.
Fall in love with someone who feels like home.
Kevin discovered the notebook one rainy evening when he was helping her move apartments.
He read the list.
Then he looked at her.
“You’re twenty-four, Ella.”
She frowned. “I know.”
“You’ve completed... three?”
“Four.”
“Buying yourself a strawberry cake doesn’t count.”
“It absolutely counts.”
Kevin laughed.
Then he took the notebook from her.
“Fine.”
“What are you doing?”
“I’m helping you.”
“With what?”
Kevin smiled.
“Your wishlist.”
Ella had no idea that night would change everything.
