Chapter One: The Awakening
The world believed monsters belonged in stories.
They imagined vampires as pale aristocrats hiding in castles, werewolves as cursed beasts beneath a full moon, witches as old women whispering over bubbling cauldrons, and spirits as nothing more than ghost stories told around campfires.
They were wrong.
The creatures of the night had existed since before the first cities were built.
Vampires ruled financial empires hidden behind centuries-old family names.
Werewolf packs protected forests and mountains forgotten by modern civilization.
Witches quietly influenced governments, medicine, science, and history through knowledge rather than force.
Spirits wandered unseen between the living and the dead.
Other races existed beyond humanity's awareness.
For thousands of years, a delicate balance had been maintained. Every race possessed territories, traditions, and ancient laws designed to keep the supernatural world hidden. Humans remained blissfully ignorant, never realizing that the stranger sitting beside them on a train might have lived for four hundred years.
Among all the witch clans, one name inspired respect... and caution.
The Valentine Clan.
Their history stretched back over seven thousand years.
They had survived empires, plagues, crusades, Witch hunts, world wars, and revolutions.
Their archives contained spells older than written language.
Their vaults housed relics capable of changing kingdoms.
Their wealth rivalled nations, though few humans had ever heard their name.
Unlike most witches, every direct descendant of the Valentine's bloodline was born completely without magic.
Until their eighteenth birthday.
Only then did their power awaken.
In a process the clan called The First Bloom.
A dangerous blessing unique to the Valentine bloodline.
For eighteen years, magical energy accumulated inside each child like water filling an endless reservoir. When the appointed day finally arrived, all that power erupted at once, creating witches whose potential far surpassed those who awakened gradually from childhood.
Many considered it the greatest gift ever bestowed upon a witch family.
Others believed it was an ancient curse cleverly disguised.
London was one of the largest supernatural crossroads in the world.
Millions of humans filled its streets every day, completely unaware that hidden districts, ancient sanctuaries, and enchanted marketplaces existed alongside them.
Far beyond the city's northern outskirts, where dense woodland swallowed abandoned country roads, stood the Valentine village.
No satellite could photograph it.
No GPS could locate it.
No human had stumbled upon it in centuries.
The place was less a mansion and more a secluded village surrounded by ancient forests and invisible barriers. Elegant stone homes stood among enchanted gardens where glowing herbs bloomed year-round. Crystal streams carried naturally occurring mana through the grounds, while towers built long before the Roman Empire still reached toward the sky.
The forest itself was alive.
Every tree remembered.
Every animal watched.
Every breeze carried whispers of old magic.
Here, the Valentines practiced their craft far from human eyes.
"One more picture!"
Sam sighed dramatically.
"You people have taken at least two hundred."
"Two hundred and twelve," Ethan corrected while checking his phone.
"You counted?"
"I was bored."
Laughter echoed through the busy streets.
Zerife Adrian Samir Valentine-known simply as Sam to his friends-rolled his eyes.
He looked nothing like what most people imagined a future heir to one of history's greatest witch clans would.
He laughed too loudly.
Made terrible jokes.
Lost arguments on purpose just to annoy people.
And somehow managed to befriend almost everyone he met.
His human friends knew him as an ordinary high school student whose parents happened to be wealthy.
None of them knew he belonged to one of the oldest supernatural families on Earth.
Tomorrow morning would change everything.
His eighteenth birthday.
The First Bloom.
Tonight, however...
He wanted to be nothing more than Sam.
"Happy birthday, Dude," Mia teased.
Everyone laughed.
Hours passed in food, games, and endless conversations.
It was almost midnight when they finally began walking toward the subway station.
The streets had grown quieter.
Too quiet.
Six men emerged from an alley.
Another stepped out behind them.
One smiled.
"Wallets. Phones. Now"
His voice sounded wrong.
Too deep.
Too... hungry.
Sam's instincts screamed.
Run.
"Everyone back away," he whispered.
One of the thugs lunged.
Chaos exploded.
People screamed.
Someone shoved Sam into a wall.
He grabbed Mia's arm who was bleeding from an attack from one of the thugs and pulled her toward an opening between two parked vehicles.
"Move!"
The group scattered.
A heavy hand seized Sam's shoulder.
He spun.
The thug's eyes flashed gold.
For the briefest moment, his mouth stretched unnaturally wide.
Then came unbearable pain.
Teeth sank deep into Sam's shoulder.
He screamed.
The man released him almost immediately.
Confusion crossed the attacker's face.
"What..."
He stared at the blood on his lips.
"...witch?"
Another thug shouted.
"Forget them! We have to go!"
Without another word, every attacker fled into the darkness.
Sam didn't understand.
Neither did anyone else.
Ignoring the burning pain in his shoulder, he helped his friends escape before police sirens filled the streets.
By the time he returned home, everyone else was asleep.
He examined the wound in his bathroom mirror.
Deep bite marks.
Painful.
But not life-threatening.
"I'll tell Mother tomorrow..."
He hesitated.
Tomorrow was his awakening.
The elders would already have enough to worry about.
"It's just a bite."
He cleaned it.
Covered it.
Went to bed.
That single decision would alter the course of his life forever.
At precisely four thirty-seven in the morning...
Sam woke screaming.
It felt as though molten metal had been poured directly into his veins.
Every bone cracked.
Every muscle twisted.
His heart pounded so violently it threatened to burst from his chest.
Then something answered.
Deep inside him...
Ancient magic erupted.
A blinding pillar of silver-blue light exploded from his body.
The room shook.
Books flew from shelves.
Windows shattered.
Outside, every protective ward surrounding the estate blazed to life.
"The First Bloom!" an elder shouted.
"He awakened early!"
Within seconds, dozens of witches rushed toward the main house.
Inside Sam's bedroom...
Something impossible was happening.
The awakening magic surged through every vein, seeking to transform him into a true Valentine witch.
But another power fought back.
Wild.
Savage.
Primal.
Silver mana collided against crimson lunar energy.
The two forces crashed together like oceans meeting in a storm.
Sam floated helplessly above his bed.
His body bent unnaturally as waves of agony tore through him.
His veins glowed alternating silver and crimson.
His heartbeat became two different rhythms fighting for control.
Every time the magic tried to claim his body, the crimson energy resisted.
Every time the crimson energy spread through his blood, the awakening burned it back.
Neither side would surrender.
His screams echoed across the estate.
"Wards are destabilizing!"
"Mana levels are rising!"
"His core is fracturing!"
"If this continues he'll die!"
The bedroom doors burst open.
Clan members rushed inside.
They froze.
"No..."
An elderly woman stared in horror.
"There is another power inside him."
The Clan Head, Magnus Valentine, stepped forward.
Seven thousand years of Valentine history reflected in his calm silver-gold eyes.
"The Purification Ritual."
Several elders looked horrified.
"So soon?"
"We have no choice."
Ancient circles were drawn across the floor.
Candles ignited with blue flames.
Dozens of witches surrounded Sam.
They began chanting in the oldest language of magic.
Silver symbols climbed the walls.
The air itself became heavy.
The ritual did not destroy the invading force.
It could not.
Instead...
It strengthened Sam's awakening.
Pure Valentine mana flooded his body.
The witch's power finally stabilized.
The violent collision ceased.
Sam slowly descended onto his bed.
His breathing became steady.
The silver light faded.
Silence returned.
"He survived," one elder whispered.
Magnus placed a hand on Sam's forehead.
"His magic has awakened."
Another elder frowned.
"But something remains."
They examined the wound.
The bite had vanished.
Not healed.
Vanished.
As though it had become part of him.
Magnus's expression darkened.
"Whatever entered him..."
"...has taken root."
No spell in the room detected it.
No divination revealed it.
The ancient ritual had hidden it beneath the overwhelming brilliance of Sam's awakened magic.
For now...
Everyone believed the danger had passed.
Far away, deep within an abandoned forest outside London, a scarred werewolf knelt before his Alpha.
"We got one."
The Alpha looked up.
"A witch?"
"Not just any witch."
The bitten wolf lowered his head.
"The scent..."
"...it belonged to a Valentine."
Silence fell over the entire pack.
Then, for the first time in decades...
The Alpha looked terrified.
"What, you bit a Valentine?"
Back at the Valentine Estate, Sam slept peacefully, unaware that beneath the calm surface of his newly awakened magic, another inheritance waited patiently.
It would awaken...
On the next full moon.
