Chapter 1

Chapter 1 — The Girl Named Stella

Once upon a time, in a quiet village where everyone knew one another, lived a beautiful young girl named Stella.

Stella was sixteen years old. She was the second child in her family and also the last born. She lived with her loving mother and her older brother, Steven, in a small but peaceful compound.

Everyone in the village admired Stella. She was known for her kindness, respect, and gentle smile. Whether it was helping an elderly neighbour carry a basket from the market or assisting children with their schoolwork, Stella was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Her mother was proud of her.

“My daughter has a heart of gold,” she would often say with a smile.

Steven, though sometimes strict, loved his little sister dearly. Their late father had passed away years earlier, and Steven had promised himself that he would always protect his mother and Stella.

Not far from their house lived a tall, handsome young man named John.

John was well known in the village. He was confident, friendly, and one of Steven’s closest friends. He often visited their house to see Steven, and whenever he arrived, the compound seemed to come alive with laughter.

Each time Stella saw John, her heart beat a little faster.

She admired the way he smiled.

She admired the way he spoke.

Without realising it, her admiration slowly turned into love.

Whenever John visited, Stella would quietly greet him before disappearing into the house, too shy to look him in the eyes.

John never noticed.

Or perhaps… he simply pretended not to.

Every night before going to bed, Stella found herself thinking about him.

She imagined what it would be like if John felt the same way.

But deep inside, she knew one thing troubled her.

John wasn’t just any young man.

He was her older brother’s best friend.

“What if he laughs at me?” she whispered one evening as she stared at the stars outside her window.

“What if he tells Steven?”

The thought frightened her.

Still…

No matter how hard she tried to forget him, her feelings only grew stronger with each passing day.

Little did Stella know that the decision she was about to make would change her life forever.
