Saving
I stand before a door—large and shrouded in darkness. Untouched, as if it hadn't been opened in a long time.
Slowly, I open it; inside lies a vast, black room.
No windows. No other door.
The only beam of light—like a spark in the darkness—comes from the doorway I’ve just opened.
I notice a girl sitting at the far end of the room.
At the edge of the light.
I watch as she stares into the void, rocking back and forth.
I hear faint murmuring, as if she is talking to herself.
I see her head turn in the semi-darkness, and her broken voice drifts across the room as she speaks: "Did you come to save me?"
She looks familiar, yet I cannot quite make out her face.
"Save? Save you from what?" I reply, my voice trembling.
"From myself. From my thoughts."
She stands up, walks slowly toward me, and steps into the light.
It seems as though walking is a struggle for her.
I freeze.
My own image is walking towards me.
I feel an icy shiver running down my spine with every step she closes the distance.
Until we stand face to face, looking deep into each other's eyes.
I look at myself.
Into my sad, dark brown eyes.
They seem so cold.
So damn empty.
It feels so unreal.
Vivid.
And all I see is a broken soul screaming for saving.
