Chapter 1 : Alex
Alex's earbuds cord bounced off her chest as she ran. Alex ran a mile around the school's track every morning for three reasons. One, Alex needed to wake up in the morning and the cool air did the trick. Two, Alex needed to stay in shape. Softball was ending, and their team had made it to the semifinals. The game was that Saturday and Alex was not about to let her team down because she couldn't keep up. Alex thought that the last thought was ironic since she was the best player on the team. She wished she could play baseball, but her being a girl left her for the softball team. Alex's third reason was one that she kept hidden from most people. Alex stopped running and took a drink of water from her water bottle. As she looked around she admired her third reason for these early morning runs. Football season had started, and school spirit was high. The schools emblum, the golden deer, had plagued every surface. From water bottles to quarter-zips that damn deer was everywhere. However, it didnt look to bad on the back of Alex's third reason. Sophie. Sophie was the flyer for the highschools cheer squad. The cheer squad practiced every morning as the football team and marching band dominated the foot ball feild and track. Alex watched Sophie. She has had a crush on her since she first saw her junior year. Now, Alex did not get crushes easy and when she fell, she fell hard. The kind of crush that even eye contact caused Alex to turn the color of a ripe tomato in July. Alex also was too shy about her crush to say or do anything about it, so she watched. So she watched Sophie. She watched Sophie so much that if she caught anyone watching her the way she watched Sophie, she would have frankly called the police. Sophie never noticed the watch though and if she did, she didn't say anything. Alex knew she didn't even notice. Sophie had a kind of airheadedness that Alex knew so well. Sophie had boys drooling over her and she didn't even notice. The last person Sophie would expect to be head over heels for her would be another girl. Especially one who didn't announce her prefferences in dating. Alex watched for a little longer before she headed inside. The bell would ring in 20 minutes.
