Summary

Selling myself to the devil and trying to escape him was my biggest mistake. Extract “Where the hell do you think you’re going?” I flinched hard at the sound of his voice but didn’t turn around to stare at him. I didn’t want to see that look of satisfaction he always had on his face, like he enjoyed breaking me. I didn’t want to see him sprawled on the sheets like a god. “Are you deaf now, Puddin?” he growled, and I flinched even harder, wincing when I tried to shift my foot. I immediately wiped my face clean of the tears, letting him see them would only worsen things for me. “I… I was just going to clean up. I know you don’t like a filthy toy, Daddy.”

Chapter 1

Scarlette.

Growing up, I’d only ever prayed and wished for one thing—to always be close to my family.

And by family, I meant papa. He was the only family I had left in this world. After finding me as an infant in a blanket outside his home one windy night, he’d been the only thing I constantly prayed for.

For the universe to keep him for me.

Papa never got married, he never wanted his own kids, he never saw me as a stranger he was being kind to, he saw me as his family. The only family he ever wanted and I completely loved him for that.

I didn’t ask for an education, I refused it when he brought it up and said all my peers had one. I didn’t want anything that would separate us. I didn’t care about boys or money, I just loved the little comfort of home. I loved the smell of bread in our bakery, and helping papa out was one of the highlight moments of my life.

I believed nothing could ever go wrong in our little world. I wanted it to be just us forever.

I still remembered the soft sound of his laughter like music in my ears. That sound I so much loved hearing and he knew it. I always found a reason to make papa laugh but slowly, I noticed, the sound lost its warmth.

Beat by beat, rhythm by rhythm, it all faded until that horrible night when he collapsed onto the filthy floors of the bakery.

The doctors had called it heart failure, high-blood pressure, too much stress for a man his age. He needed surgery, fast. He needed 24-hours caring service, highly expensive medications and supplements.

Everything I couldn’t afford.

Everything I never though I’d need to worry about in my life.

They mentioned several dollars—in millions and a deadline too soon, only a miracle could save me.

So I did what I had to do to save papa’s life.

I sold myself.

To the highest bidder.

I got the money, and returned to the hospital, but they said it was too late, mentioned something about

a medical complication they couldn’t have contained because I hadn’t made any deposit.

I was left with the cold feeling of dread in my gut as I crumbled to the floor. He was gone. My only family. I was never going to see him smile again. Permanently. Forever.

Just like that?

All my hard work and sacrifice was gone with him. The pain I had to lie still and endure just to get the money was now a complete waste of time. My pride and dignity, torn to pieces.

I didn’t just sell my body, I sold my entire existence, to the one man I was never supposed to come in contact with. A dark monster that was never supposed to collide with my small and calm world.

When he’d taken me, my first time, he’d made it clear he was never letting me go. I had hoped to get papa back on his feet with the money and work twice as hard to take care of him and pay back the money but all that hope was crushed.

I tried to run away from my careless and hasty decision but Nicolai Grim wasn’t a man I could just run away from even with the huge sum I now had from what I did.

He caught me and dragged me back to his mansion. Tied me up and did unimaginable things to me. I shouldn’t have ran. I never should have made a deal with the devil in the first place.

That was how my misery began.

~~~~~~~
I wiped the tears in my eyes as I dragged my bruised up self out of the bed, clutching tightly to the remains of my plain white gown.
The tears never helped, I knew that by now. My body was accustomed to the pain now and I was supposed to be used to it but I don’t know why they refused to stop flowing. They never solved any problems for me but they never failed to run down my face.
“Where the hell do you think you’re going?”
I flinched hard at the sound of his voice but didn’t turn around to stare at him.
I didn’t want to see that look of satisfaction he always had on his face, like he enjoyed breaking me. I didn’t want to see him sprawled on the sheets like a god.
“Are you deaf now, Puddin?” he growled, and I flinched even harder, wincing when I tried to shift my foot. I immediately wiped my face clean of the tears. Letting him see them would only worsen things for me.
“I… I was just going to clean up. I know you don’t like a filthy toy, Daddy.”
My voice came out low, soft, submissive. Just how he’d trained me, broken me, and taught me to be.I knew he liked it when I called him Daddy. He’d explicitly commanded me to call him that everywhere, even whenever he took me out with him which was once in a blue moon, when he was in a very good mood.
“Come here, Puddin,”
I turned around slowly and walked back to the bed, my feet barely making any sound on the tiled floor as I got to him. I stopped beside him, still gripping my torn dress like a lifeline, standing while he laid down.
“Go back to your initial position, and crawl on the bed to me,” he commanded, pushing me back slightly. Our eyes locked and I nodded.
He slapped me hard on the ass and I winced through gritted teeth. That area was already too sore but he never cared about how I felt.
“Don’t make me remind you to use your words,” he frowned.
“I’m sorry. I’ll do just as you’ve commanded, Daddy.” I bowed my head briefly.
I returned to where I’d been standing and climbed on the bed. I crawled slowly on the bouncy sheets, hips swaying behind me and eyes locked on him to avoid another smack.
His fingers gripped my chin when I stopped right in front of him, anchoring me closer to throw my legs over him and straddle his thighs.
He was completely naked, and I was barely dressed in the ripped fabric. Panic rose in my chest at the position.
“What did I say about asking for permission before doing anything? You know I hate to hit you Puddin, why are you always so disobedient?”
I gulped and shook my head. “I’m…. Sorry. Please don’t be mad, Daddy. Don’t hit me. I was just going to clean up for you,”
“And did I ask you to do any damn thing?” he yelled and I flinched again, the tears I’d managed to keep at bay, resurfacing. “Don’t you fucking let them drop,” he glared in warning.
I hastily wiped the tears and forced a small, broken smile.
“Does it hurt?”
