Anara’s Earth Diaries Before the Flood

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

Before Earth’s first cycle begins, scientists from other worlds establish human life on the planet. The people they guide come to worship them as gods. But Earth’s atmosphere affects more than their bodies: ambition and greed begin to corrupt their purpose. When Ardan seeks to remain as king, Anara opposes him. Their conflict becomes a war that threatens the very lives they were sent to nurture. Sent through time by the Supreme Council, Marduk carries an order for Anara. Before leaving Earth, she must record every day of her mission—including her own mistakes—and preserve those records in a sealed underground well. A coming flood will submerge every landmass and erase the world they knew. The diaries must survive for future humanity. Whether their readers will recognize history, or dismiss it as mythology, remains uncertain.

CHAPTER 1 – The Mission Given to the Past

When Marduk was admitted into the presence of the Supreme Council he stood in the place designated for him. The members before him wore white robes. Their hoods completely covered their faces. He did not cross the boundary set for him because he would not be able to withstand the intense energy emanating from their bodies. Being exposed to this intensity without the robes and hoods could result in his body melting away into nothingness.

He bowed his head and waited. The Chairman at the center of the Council addressed him.

“Marduk, you will be sent to Earth in the past,” said the Chairman. “Your mission will be to reach Anara and deliver the decision of the Supreme Council.”

An image of Earth opened before him. A settlement on the planet’s surface was enlarged. There were houses on both sides of the wide roads, with science centers farther ahead. The road leading to one of the centers was severed by a deep fissure. The upper floor of a nearby structure had sunk into the lower floor, while the wall of another structure had bent inward without breaking away from its place.

People emerging from the settlement were carrying the wounded. Behind a man being carried by four people walked a woman with a small bundle. A little farther on someone trying to return home was stopped by those beside him. A new attack began on the far side of the image. Stones on the road lifted from the surface and hurtled toward the facade of a structure.

“The war between Anara and Ardan continues,” said the Chairman. “The equipment brought to establish human life is now being used to harm that life.”

Marduk examined the damage around the science center. Only certain sections of some structures had disappeared, while the walls immediately beside them remained intact. The effects of the weapons being used did not resemble the traces of explosions and destruction he knew.

“The scientists on Earth and the military scientists accompanying them have taken action to stop the conflict,” said the Chairman. “You will reach Anara. She needs to learn our decision before leaving Earth.”

Anara’s last known location opened. It was close to the region where Ardan was located. Marduk examined the routes leading there. The direct route passed through the battlefield.

Following the image of the settlement measurements concerning Earth’s atmosphere and observation records taken during different periods opened.

In the first record a community was working together. They were carrying materials into the completed structure, passing the loads at the entrance from hand to hand. In a later record the doors of the same structure had been closed. Those inside were not allowing those left outside to enter. During the fight that began in front of the door the materials being carried toppled over. While one person tried to gather what remained on the ground others drove him away.

In another image food was being distributed. Some of those who had received their share approached the table again, moving ahead of those waiting behind them. When one of the food items he was carrying in his arms fell to the ground a man struck the person who tried to take it. As those around them joined in the distribution stopped. Those at the end of the line left without receiving anything.

“It had been determined that Earth’s atmosphere rapidly wears down the body,” said the Chairman. “Its effect on the self has also emerged. Greed, ambition and desire grow stronger in this atmosphere.”

Beside the measurements appeared the work records of Anara and Ardan. The work they had carried out together before coming to Earth was compared with later records. Ardan was seen having equipment allocated to other centers moved to structures under his own control. Anara meanwhile was directing attacks she had prepared to stop his operations.

“They both know that they must leave Earth when the mission is complete,” said the Chairman. “Despite the law he knows, Ardan wants to remain here and become king. While opposing this Anara is harming people with the war she is waging.”

Marduk continued watching the records. The two scientists who had come to Earth for the same purpose were now attacking each other between the centers established for their work, blocking the roads where people lived.

“This effect has also been evaluated for the cycle in which humanity will begin,” said the Chairman. “Earth will begin its first cycle from the third dimension. Humans need to develop by learning from their experiences. However due to atmospheric causes we foresee that this progress will not continue as it should.”

The entire surface of Earth opened again. The calculation concerning the approaching flood began. The water first covered the settlements along the coasts, then advanced inland. Marduk watched the points where high ground was located. Slopes and hills were submerged one after another. When the last piece of land disappeared the calculation stopped.

“In the flood that will occur before the first cycle not a single piece of land will remain above water,” said the Chairman. “The sources of knowledge from this period will be erased.”

The locations of the science centers were marked. All of them would remain beneath the waters. The records of the work done to establish human life were also located in these centers.

Information concerning Anara’s arrival on Earth opened.

“Anara is a teacher at a university in her own world. She has the expertise to organize and convey her knowledge,” said the Chairman. “She will write down every day she experiences from the first day she arrived on Earth until the day she leaves. Scientific studies, relations with humans and the team members being accepted as gods will be recorded. Her war with Ardan and her own actions will also be included in these records.”

The full decision appeared before Marduk. The records would be prepared on material that would not be damaged by water, and would be stored in an underground well in such a way that they would not get wet under any circumstances.

“A source will be left through which later humans can reach their past,” said the Chairman. “The effect of the atmosphere may also make it difficult for them to evaluate the information they find. Nevertheless the records will be preserved.”

Marduk read the proclamation text to the end.

“You will reach Anara without coming to harm and inform her of our command,” said the Chairman.

“I will carry out your command,” said Marduk.

The mission information was transferred to his system. Marduk waited in place until he was permitted to leave the presence. When permission came he bowed his head and withdrew.

While preparing for the journey he reopened Anara’s last location. He set the arrival point on high ground outside the settlement. He checked the protection system. The moment he reached Earth his body would be entirely within the enclosed area, and would have no direct contact with the external environment.

After securing the proclamation record he confirmed the arrival date and initiated the time transition.
