Summary

In a vibrant parallel universe branching away from traditional timelines, a radical scientific breakthrough changes everything. A routine international journey turns into a lifetime confinement when an ordinary citizen from a small Latin American nation accidentally intercepts a high-tech experimental projectile designed for an elite target. The unexpected biochemical impact triggers a brutal, irreversible body transformation—instantly altering biological gender, reversing age to late adolescence, and stripping away their legal identity. Stripped of their past, nameless, and afflicted with a severe dermal allergy to synthetic fabrics, this displaced human individual is forced to embrace an extraordinary biological reality to survive. Welcomed by a highly influential European household and confined to specialized rural stables for protection, the protagonist discovers a prestigious, highly regulated sports culture: the grueling world of elite ponyplay tournaments. Harnessing incredible newfound height and physical stamina, they embark on a fierce athletic journey, climbing from small provincial trials to the legendary arena of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. A gripping, spectacular grimdark novel of identity shifts, elite sports submission, and political corporate justice within an independent timeline.

Author’s note:

This story is set in a parallel world very close to our own, but with clear differences from current events. I should also mention that this story aims to create a starting point, a prequel to the ponygirl stories that typically take place 50 to 100 years in the future. With this story, I explore how the world changes according to the paths woven like fine threads on the loom of time, or as Marvel illustrates in the Loki series with the Yggdrasil tree , when people make unexpected decisions or take unexpected actions. In this story, I explore how humanity finds a more environmentally friendly means of transportation, but you’ll notice that the protagonist , although forced to change sex, chooses to act of their own free will as a ponygirl . I sincerely hope you enjoy the story, and please share your thoughts in the comments. Thank you.

When my life changed!

Hello, my name is José Méndez, I’m 51 years old, and I’m… sorry, I was from a small Latin American country called Costa Rica! It was in mid-January 2024 that I traveled to Europe for the first time. Last November 2023, I won an all-expenses-paid trip to the major capitals of the Old Continent for four weeks. At first, I thought about selling the plane ticket and keeping the money, but a coworker told me that I’ve spent my whole life working at the same company and have never taken a proper vacation, so I have 120 days of vacation time accumulated. He suggested I should use the prize ticket and travel around Europe in January. I wasn’t entirely sure, but in the end, it was true that I never took the vacation time I had, and I decided that now that I’m still in good shape, even though I’m old, I can travel alone without any problems. So, why not take the prize and treat myself? That’s why I started the travel arrangements.

During November and December, I made the arrangements for the trip. The trip started on January 10th, but while I was looking for the address of the hotel where I would be staying in Madrid, Spain, for a week, I came across an advertisement for the Euromillions Christmas draw. I had never won anything significant in my life until I won the trip to Europe! I thought, “Why not?” So I bought a Euromillions ticket online to see if I would have better luck or if it was just a momentary stroke of luck. The Monday after the Christmas draw, the lottery company representative called me in the morning to inform me that they had sent me the information to claim my Euromillions prize. He also told me that I was the only winner and that I should go to a bank in Spain to collect the prize. I was surprised; the Euromillions jackpot wasn’t going to be divided among several people, which would be usual, and I was the only winner that year.

When I arrived in Madrid, my first thought was to take the metro since there’s no subway in my country, but my back was killing me from sitting on the plane for 14 hours, so I decided instead to walk the 14.2 kilometers to the hotel. According to Google Maps, it would take me a little over 3 hours to walk that distance, but since I was on vacation, I simply called the hotel to let them know I had arrived and would be walking, so I estimated I’d be back around midday. Walking through the city was truly beautiful; seeing the architecture, the mix of old and new, is fascinating. At this point, I should explain something important: in Costa Rica, “antique” refers to anything a little over 200 years old, but in Spain, “antique” refers to anything between 500 and 2,500 years old. Therefore, seeing buildings that in my country would already be demolished here are preserved like true priceless treasures.

Upon arriving at the hotel, the receptionist advised me to go to my room and sleep until dinnertime to adjust to the time change. I accepted her suggestion and asked her to wake me up for dinner. I planned to spend the next few days visiting the most iconic places in the beautiful old city, but first, I decided to go to the bank branch a block from my hotel when it was open. I spent the entire day signing documents and completing tax procedures and other related processes. Finally, when everything was finished, I realized I no longer needed to work and decided to take what Americans call a sabbatical to continue traveling the world—“economy class, of course,” so I wouldn’t spend my bonus in just one year. Heh, heh, heh, heh.

As I left the bank, the manager walked me to the door, still offering financial advice. I thanked him and said goodbye before heading back to the hotel. I was in a daze at that moment. I had taken out my phone to call the HR manager at the company where I worked to ask how I should resign, and I didn’t realize when I bumped into a man walking in the opposite direction. I apologized, but I didn’t really look at him. I just walked past him and then turned to cross the street to go back to the hotel.

I hadn’t even reached the edge of the sidewalk when something hit me in the chest with the force of a 22-pound sledgehammer, and I was thrown backward so hard that I took the poor man down with me. For a moment I thought, “What’s happening?” But then I felt an intense pain that spread from my chest throughout my entire body, and it felt like I’d been thrown into a giant oven and my whole body was burning. The pain was so intense that I lost consciousness. When I woke up, I was in a hospital room lying on corrugated cardboard and covered by what looked like a blanket made of cardboard.

Next to me was a nurse who said, “Don’t worry, honey! Everything is fine, and the doctor who’s handling your case will be here soon to explain what happened.” I looked at the nurse, very confused, and nodded. For a moment, I lay there trying to remember what had happened. As I stared at the stucco ceiling, I turned my head toward the window. It was night, and I could see the stars. That’s when I felt something attached to my head being pulled, as it was pressed under my right shoulder. Instinctively, I moved to grab whatever was under me and remove it, but at that moment, I saw the “blanket” slide off, revealing a woman’s breast. With my hand, I felt that my hair was now long and reached my waist. I yanked the “blanket” off to discover that my penis had turned into a vagina. The shock was so strong that I must have fainted, because the next thing I remember was seeing a woman in a white lab coat saying, “Calm down, Don José!” I looked at her and said, “Are you okay?” But at that moment I heard my own voice, now high-pitched and feminine; she placed a finger over my mouth and explained what had happened. By the time she finished speaking, I was in shock, my mind blank from the experience.

By the time I could speak, I asked how long I had been in the hospital. She looked at me and said, “Don José, you’ve been here for five whole days!” I looked at her, and although I hoped I was wrong, I asked, already knowing the answer: “Is it possible to undo what they did to me?” She looked at me and said, “We don’t know, Don José! This is the first time we’ve encountered a case like yours, and only the person who caused this to you could answer that question, but it’s very unlikely that you’ll be able to change your gender again, and you’ll have to live as a woman for the rest of your life.” Then the doctor told me, “We’ve performed hundreds of tests, and I can tell you how little we know, but what is certain is that your gender is now... female! Since you don’t have any XY chromosomes, but you should also know that they didn’t just change your gender; they also rejuvenated you to the age of a 14- or 15-year-old.” I don’t know how Don José feels, but you’re now 5′7", which makes you quite tall for your age! Oh, and one more thing! Your skin is unstable, which means you can’t use any kind of synthetic fabric. It’s like a fabric allergy; that’s why your mattress is inside a large cardboard box and your blanket is that huge piece of cardboard. Apparently, you’re not allergic to natural products or products made from natural ingredients.

That night was awful. I felt like a lab animal. They used me without my permission and replaced me with someone I didn’t want to be. I wouldn’t have authorized the experiment if they’d asked me, but now I’m here naked, waiting to hear if I can ever be who I was again, or how I can get my life back. If that’s even possible!

In the morning, a couple came to my room. The man said to me very seriously, “I’m so sorry about what happened to you! But I think you’re the bravest person in the world to take that gunshot to save me!” I looked at him for a moment and said sarcastically, “So you think I saved your life? It wasn’t bravery! I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. You think I saved your life, but the truth is, what happened to me was awful!” The man looked at his wife, and she said to him, “Don’t be mad at her! She’s very angry about what happened to her, and besides, she’s a foreigner. She must be worried about her status here in Spain, since her old identity is no longer valid, and she has to create a new one.” Then the woman turned to me and said, “Please forgive my husband for not introducing us properly! He is King Felipe VI of Spain, and I am Letizia Ortiz, Queen Consort.” I looked at her and said, “Yes, I know who you are. I’ve seen you on the news!” I am… but I remained silent for a moment; then I said: I was José Méndez. But before the King could say anything else, I cut him off, saying: And no, Your Majesty, it wasn’t heroism! It was just bad luck for me and good luck for you! That’s all! At first, I thought someone had chosen me to be their guinea pig, but not even that; he was the target, and I’m just the unfortunate soul who took the shot for him. Yes, I already felt bad! Now I felt much worse, since that shit wasn’t meant for me, it was meant to screw him over.

I looked the Queen in the eyes and said, “Please, Your Majesty, don’t be upset, but I want to be alone!” Then I turned my head toward the window and didn’t speak again. They came up to me and kissed me on the cheeks. When I looked at them in surprise, he said, “There’s no way I can ever repay you, but I can assure you that the doctors and scientists in Spain are doing everything in their power to undo what they did to you. I can only tell you that I’m grateful that it wasn’t enough for me, and if nothing can be done to change what happened to you, I will do everything in my power so that you can have as normal a life as possible. Yes, it is possible!” I looked at him with tears in my eyes and turned my back so he would understand that I wanted to be alone. Then I heard the King say to someone, “You and your team stay here to protect her!”

During the following week, the medical staff brought all sorts of fabrics to test which ones I could use, but with each burn they inflicted on my arms and legs, the possibility of ever wearing clothes again became less and less likely. However, a doctor noticed that with each passing day, the allergy took only a few seconds to flare up, so he estimated that I might be able to wear clothes again in about 6 to 12 months. It was something, but it meant I would have to spend that time living in that hospital room. I finally had to accept that my European vacation was down the drain. Thanks to the bastard who used me as a guinea pig.

One day, the leading Spanish scientist came to see me and said that all the tests they had conducted led to the same conclusion. Before he could say anything else, I said, “Yes, I expected as much!” The man looked like he hadn’t slept in weeks, and I could tell he felt defeated. I looked at him and thanked him for his efforts and for the efforts of everyone who had tried to help me. He left, defeated, leaving me with a profound emptiness and no hope of ever getting my old life back.

That same afternoon, a man visited me claiming to be my country’s ambassador to Spain. He explained that my sister refused to verify my identity and had declared me dead in Spain, seizing my house and the money I had saved throughout my life. Therefore, he couldn’t provide me with a passport or any valid identification. After telling me this, he left, leaving me feeling even worse than before. At that moment, I thought about the Euromillions prize and asked the nurse to bring me my wallet and cell phone, as I needed to make an urgent call. When they gave me my leather wallet, I searched inside for the business card the bank manager had given me. The woman from the royal guard who was supposed to protect me asked, “Should I close the door?” I looked at her and said, “Yes, please, and thank you!”

With my business card in hand, I called the manager and told him who I was, but I didn’t have to explain anything else since he said, “Yes, I understand everything! How can I help you?” I felt awkward trying to ask about the account in my name, so the manager said, “Don’t worry, your account is safe. Just tell me what name you want it under, and I’ll send you a new debit or credit card to the hospital.” I was silent for a moment, then said, “Put the account in Lucia’s name!” Then I said, “Please wait!” I paused my phone when the woman from the royal guard came in and said, “The King and Queen already know what happened with your identity, and they ordered me to tell you that if this were to happen again, you must choose a first name, but the surnames must be theirs, and that’s not a suggestion... it’s an order.” I looked at her in surprise and said to the bank manager, “I’m Lucia D’Borbon Ortiz!” The manager said: I’ll personally deliver your new card to you in one hour!

This morning I heard a man’s voice say, “With your permission, Miss Lucia!” But the voice didn’t wait for my permission; when he entered, he introduced himself as a Spanish civil registry official. He told me, “Captain Sánchez informed the King that you agreed to use his surname and the Queen’s, so I need to take a passport-sized photograph for your new identification. Using the information from your identification document when you were Don José, we’ve created a new identity for you where you are Lucía D’Borbón Ortiz, and we only need the photograph to give you the document. It’s important that you understand that your date of birth is the same as on your previous document, but now you’re born in September 2005 so that you have the identification of a young woman of legal age, as indicated by Spanish constitutional law.” (While he was saying all this, the man was setting up a camera that pointed at the opposite wall of the room.) Then the man said, “Miss, please come here so I can take your picture!” After taking the photo, he called the doctor and the head nurse on duty, along with one of the officers of the royal guard. The civil registrar then proceeded to swear me in and asked the witnesses to sign the official document. After handing me my new ID, he left, leaving me completely surprised and wondering if they would have been just as quick if the King hadn’t requested the document.

As night fell, the shift change for the royal guard team arrived. Captain Sanchez entered my room with a bag and said, “Yesterday I noticed you took your leather wallet, and your allergy didn’t flare up!” I looked at her and turned to pick up the wallet with my documents. When we touched it, we confirmed that leather didn’t trigger my allergy. Captain Sanchez took a leather belt and put it around my waist, and the allergy remained inactive. Then she said, “Put on these black leather pants and this white leather coat.” I put them on, fearing that the clothes would burn my skin, but nothing happened. The captain then said, “Please sit on the bed!” Once I was sitting, she took out a pair of white leather high heels and put them on my feet. Since the allergy was still inactive, she helped me up and had me accompany her to the accounting office, where I paid for my hospital stay. Then we went down to the parking lot, and she led me to one of the cars there. As I watched the rest of the team get into other cars and leave the parking lot, I asked the captain, “Aren’t we going to the same place they’re going?” She said, “They’re going back to the palace! We’re going to my mother’s house in a small town in Almería, near Murcia.”

Once we were near the car, she said to me, “Good evening! My name is Claudia Sánchez!” I looked at her and replied, “Good evening! My name is José Méndez!” She corrected me, saying, “Are you sure?” I looked at her and said, “It’s very difficult for me to use the other name!” To which she said, “Now you are Spanish and the adopted daughter of the King and Queen of Spain, please introduce yourself by that other name.” I looked at her for a full minute and then said, “Good evening! My name is Lucía D’Borbón Ortiz!” She smiled and said, “Fortunately, few people knew about your case, so I offered the King and Queen that you stay at my house with my mother while your skin stabilizes and you can wear any type of clothing; the King and Queen agreed and accepted this option, which is better for you since the climate in Andalusia is more pleasant than the climate in Madrid at this time of year for being naked.” As she was about to get into the car, I said, “Thank you for offering your house, and it’s not that I’m ungrateful... But why don’t I go to the palace?” She said, “The palace is constantly visited by officials, politicians, journalists, and all sorts of people... since you have to walk around naked most of the time, it’s not advisable for a young and very beautiful girl to be walking around naked in the palace. Don’t you think?” I looked at her and got into the car with her . Then I asked her, “How long will it take?” She looked at me and said, “It’s about a 7-hour trip!” I looked at her and said, “I know how to drive; if you want, I can drive part of the way!” She replied, “I don’t think so! You have to get your driver’s license here, and since you don’t have it, it’s better if you don’t drive. Besides, this car is an official vehicle, and I’d get in trouble if I let you drive.” As a joke, I said, “Wake me up when we get there!” She smiled at me and said, “Relax, go to sleep!”
