Summary

Chapter 1 is essentially about Mehek’s childhood and the beliefs she unknowingly developed while growing up in a world she didn’t fully understand. It introduces her as a bright, lively, and naturally witty girl who was good at almost everything except Maths. But as she grew older and moved into a different environment, her innocence made her believe that people from higher-ranking families were somehow better or more capable than her. What begins as a simple childhood comparison slowly turns into an inferiority complex. She spends years believing that she is “less” than others, without realizing that social rank, family background, or circumstances do not decide a person’s worth or potential. The chapter ends with Mehek finally beginning to understand that she was never actually below anyone—she had simply been made to believe that she was. Yet, that realization comes much later, after she has already spent three years carrying those misconceptions with her.

Chapter 1

Ek ladki thi… anjaani si duniya-daari se, koi samajh nahi thi use.

Papa Army mein the, toh ghar chhodkar unke saath rehna pada. Papa ke saath rehte hue bachpan kaafi introvert aur shy si thi woh.

Chhoti si umar mein badi haazir-jawaab thi. Log bahut sarahte the use, kehte the, “Ladki badi hoshiyaar hai.”

Samajh toh tab aaya jab pata laga ki duniya bahut badi hai… aur aap usmein ek tinke jaise.

Badi hui, logon se mili, duniya ko samajhna shuru kiya. Toh na jaane kab uski woh haazir-jawaabi kahin gum ho gayi.

Jo ladki kabhi jhooth bhi itne confidence se bol deti thi ki saamne wala yakeen kar le, aaj usi ladki mein class mein khade hokar ek answer dene tak ki himmat nahi thi.

Dheere-dheere ye sab chalta gaya.

Log uske bholepan ka istemaal karte gaye, karte gaye… aur woh har baar bas samajhne ki koshish karti rahi.

Chhoti si Mehek ab badi hone lagi thi.

Duniya-daari samajhne lagi thi.

Ab use samajh aane laga tha ki har muskurata hua chehra apna nahi hota, har meethi baat sach nahi hoti, aur har insaan waisa nahi hota jaisa woh dikhta hai.

Shayad isi samajh ke saath, woh bachpan wali Mehek kahin peeche chhoot gayi thi.

Mehek padhai mein hoshiyaar toh thi, lekin Maths use bilkul pasand nahi thi. Baaki saare subjects mein topper aur Maths mein… dabba gol.

Chulbuli, haazir-jawaab ladki jo Hindi, SST aur Science ki class mein kabhi chup na baithti thi, wahi Maths ki wajah se aksar kone mein baithi rehti thi.

Bechari itni bholi thi ki ek waqt par ye tak samajh baithi thi ki uska level officers ke bachchon se neeche hai.

Gayi thi equality ke liye ghar se bahar padhne, lekin wahan jaakar ek aur hi cheez seekh li—

“Aap kam hain.”

Apne se upar rank walon ko dekhkar woh hamesha yahi samajhti rahi ki hum unse neeche hain. Unke bachche alag hain, hum alag hain. Shayad unmein kuch aisa hai jo hum mein nahi.

Lekin bahut baad mein samajh aaya…

Hum bhi un jaise ban sakte hain.

Rank kisi insaan ki aukaat nahi batati.Aur kisi ke maa-baap ki position uske bachche ki value decide nahi karti.

Lekin ye sab samajhne mein Mehek ko bahut waqt laga.

Bechari ne woh teen saal toh jaise-taise kaat liye…

Bahut saare misconceptions ke saath.
