Marvin and Marvin

The following are a collection of stories that I wrote by asking the AI to give me a story prompt. The words are mine but the inital idea wad AIs.

Marvin and Marvin prompt by ChatGPT: The window across the street from your house had differnt things in it event night, Monday an aquarium, Tuesday a dentist, Wednesday outer space. One day you look in the window and you see your self sitting at your own desk.

Story by Suzanne:

The man was sitting at the copy of Marvin’s desk in a copy of Marvin’s room in the building across the street. Yesterday the room in that window had been an ordinary office.

The man in the room copy was writing.

Marvin watched him for a moment.

What if Marvin wrote on the desk? Would that appear on the copy of his desk in that other room?

Marvin picked up his pencil. The desk was smooth and so very clean. He hated to mark up its textured white surface, but the man was looking at him.

“Hi!” he wrote.

He waited.

The man turned around and stared at him. The man didn’t blink.

His eyes were nothing but iris.

Marvin swallowed hard. Perhaps this wasn’t a good idea, but why live if you couldn’t push?

“Why do you have my room tonight?” he scrawled on the desk.

The man stood up and walked over to the window. Still not blinking.

Marvin erased the marks on the desk.

The man kept staring, hungry and hollow.

Marvin stared back, trying to match the man’s expression. He wasn’t going to win this one. He blinked.

Suddenly he was very hungry.

Marvin brought back a sandwich from the kitchen and set it on the desk.

The man returned to the desk and started writing furiously.

Marvin took a bite of the sandwich.

The man stopped writing and looked at him.

Marvin froze.

Marvin put the sandwich back on the desk.

The writer resumed.

Marvin turned off the light.

The window room went dark too.

Then a text came in.

STOP

It was from Marvin’s own number.

Marvin turned the light back on.

The window room was lit again.

The man was stooped over the desk, panting.

Marvin went and got a glass of water to set on the desk.

The man soon looked calm and began writing again.

Marvin stacked water, snacks, tissues, and a pair of fuzzy socks on the desk. The man flexed his fingers once. Then he began writing again.

Marvin decided to leave the light on and sleep in the guest room.

In the morning he found only a note on the desk—written in his own hand.
