PROLOGUEIl y a des histoires qui commencent par une rencontre.

D’autres commencent par une perte.

La mienne a commencé bien avant que je ne comprenne que certaines blessures ne disparaissent jamais vraiment.

À cette époque, je pensais encore que le temps guérissait tout. Que les souvenirs finiraient par s’effacer, que les personnes que l’on perd pouvait être remplacées et qu’il suffisait de tourner la page pour recommencer.

J’avais tort.

Il y avait des choses que je ne pouvais pas fuir.

Des souvenirs que je ne pouvais pas enterrer.

Et surtout, des vérités que je n’étais pas encore prête à découvrir.

Je m’appelle Anna Vumi.

Pendant longtemps, j’ai cru connaître ma vie. Je croyais connaître ma famille, mes proches, mes blessures… jusqu’au jour où tout a commencé à s’effondrer.

Alors j’ai trouvé refuge dans les livres.

Entre leurs pages, personne ne me demandait d’expliquer mes silences. Personne ne voyait mes larmes. Je pouvais disparaître quelques heures et devenir quelqu’un d’autre.

Je pensais que la bibliothèque serait simplement mon refuge.

Je ne savais pas qu’elle deviendrait le lieu où ma vie allait prendre un tournant que je n’aurais jamais imaginé.

Parce que certaines rencontres arrivent au mauvais moment.

Et pourtant, elles changent tout.


Je ne savais pas encore que ce jour-là, je venais de tourner la première page de ma propre histoire.
