Chapter 1
Chapter 1: The Gates of Whispers and Gold
The iron gates of Sterling High stood tall against the fading light,
A fortress built for privilege, where wrong was dressed as right.
Behind the walls, a silent war was brewing in the dark,
Where every whispered rumor left a deep and stinging mark.
Eliana clutched her battered bag and fixed her steady gaze,
Stepping through the threshold of a cold and bitter maze.
She wore a scholar's uniform, but carried hidden fire,
A burning need for justice and a vow to reach up higher.
Three years ago, her family's name was shattered and undone,
By men who ruled the campus like they owned the very sun.
And chief among the vultures was the heir who wore the crown—
Theodore, the ruthless prince who watched them tumble down.
"Don't look too close," her best friend warned, adjusting her own tie,
"The wolves are out for blood today, and eagles rule the sky."
True to form, a roar of sound cut through the courtyard chill,
An Aston Martin screeching to a sudden, perfect still.
Out stepped Julian, the king of all the gilded halls,
Whose shadowed eyes kept secrets behind polished marble walls.
He looked at none, he bowed to none, a hurricane in grey,
With intellect as lethal as a blade tucked safe away.
As Eliana tried to slip unnoticed through the crowd,
A sneering voice rang sharp and clear, malicious and aloud.
Rhiannon blocked the pathway with a smirk upon her face,
"Look what crawled in from the streets to soil our sacred place."
The circle laughed, a cruel sound that echoed through the stone,
And Eliana felt the chill of standing quite alone.
She raised her chin, her eyes like ice, refusing to break down:
"Some floors can washed," she softly said, "unlike a tarnished crown."
Before a counter-strike could land, a low voice cut the air,
"Enough of this cheap theater, leave her standing there."
It was Julian. He stepped between the shadows and the light,
His gaze locked onto Eliana's with a sudden, piercing might.
He reached into his tailored coat and held out something small—
An ancient silver pendant that she feared was lost for all.
"You dropped your past," he murmured low, where only she could hear,
With undertones of dangerous truth and mystery sincere.
She snatched the heirloom from his palm, their fingers brushing brief,
A spark of electric current that defied her cold relief.
"Be careful what you carry, girl," he whispered with a grin,
"For games are getting started, and you're bound to enter in."
