Summary

Book Description: RAGE In the heart of Detroit, where steel meets soul, one man’s fury becomes his only truth. RAGE follows Craig Smith through the city’s shadows — from abandoned factories to neon-lit streets — as he battles betrayal, loss, and the fire burning inside him. Every roar of an engine echoes his anger; every broken streetlight reflects his fight for redemption. This is a story of survival, faith, and the raw power that rises when a man refuses to be broken.

Chapter One -- Detroit

Chapter One — Detroit

Detroit hit Craig Smith in the chest the moment he stepped off the bus.

Not with violence.

Not with danger.

But with truth. The city breathed differently than Yuma. It growled. It pulsed. It moved with a rhythm that didn’t wait for anyone to catch up. Skyscrapers towered over him like steel judges, their windows reflecting a sky that looked colder than any desert night he’d ever survived. The air smelled like gasoline, winter, and old stories.Craig tightened the straps on his backpack. Everything he owned was inside it — a couple shirts, a worn Bible, and the anger he’d carried for years. Anger didn’t take up space, but it weighed more than anything else he owned. He walked down Jefferson Avenue, boots crunching over patches of ice. Cars sped past, engines roaring like beasts. People moved fast, heads down, chasing something or running from something. Detroit didn’t care which one you were.Craig wasn’t chasing.

He wasn’t running.

He was surviving.A group of men stood outside a corner store, watching him with the kind of curiosity that wasn’t friendly. Craig kept moving. In Yuma, he learned that eye contact could be an invitation. In Detroit, it could be a challenge. He wasn’t here to challenge anyone. He passed an abandoned factory — windows shattered, graffiti screaming across the brick. A gust of wind pushed through the broken doorway, carrying the hollow echo of a city that had seen too much. Craig felt it in his bones. Detroit wasn’t just a place. It was a test.He stopped at the edge of the sidewalk, staring at the skyline. The Renaissance Center rose like a fortress, its glass towers catching the last light of day. For a moment, Craig felt small. Then he felt something else — something he hadn’t felt in a long time.Possibility.Detroit was dangerous.

Detroit was unforgiving.

But Detroit was honest. And honesty was something Craig hadn’t had in years. He crossed the street and headed toward the river. The wind slapped his face, but he welcomed it. Pain meant he was alive. Pain meant he was still fighting. Pain meant he hadn’t given up.Not yet.As the sun dropped behind the buildings, the city lights flickered on — red, blue, gold, neon. Detroit transformed. It became louder, brighter, hungrier. Craig stood at the riverwalk, staring at the dark water rolling past.“This is it,” he whispered. Not a prayer.

Not a promise.

Just a truth.Detroit didn’t know him.

Detroit didn’t care about him.

But Detroit was where he would either rise… or break. And Craig Smith had already broken once.

He was not going to do it again.
