Chapter 1: Room 304 and the Moving-In Chaos
The iron gates of Sunshine Girls’ Hostel creaked open to usher in a fresh semester, but Room 304 was already a swirling cyclone of suitcases, cardboard boxes, and unrolled mattresses.
In the middle of the room stood Kavya, looking effortlessly striking despite the oppressive summer humidity. With her soft features, bright eyes, and an innate grace that made even moving furniture look like a choreographic sequence, she pulled her hair back into a loose clip. Before she had even unpacked her clothes, her fingers were itching to open her sketchbook, which rested atop a stack of delicate dance anklets.
“If I carry one more trunk up three flights of stairs, my ghost will officially be haunt-renting this hostel,” groaned Radha, dropping a heavy duffel bag onto the floor with a dramatic thud. Radha was already holding a charcoal pencil behind her ear, her face smeared with a smudge of graphite. Within two minutes of meeting Kavya, Radha had already drawn a hilarious caricature of their stern-faced warden on the corner of a cardboard box, complete with exaggerated eyebrows. Kavya had burst into a melodic, ringing laugh that instantly melted any lingering awkwardness.
“Need a hand, dramatic?” a voice smooth as warm honey echoed from the doorway.
In stepped Sam, casually tossing a sleek varsity bag into the corner. With her sharp jawline, effortlessly styled short hair, relaxed posture, and an oversized denim jacket slung over her shoulders, Sam exuded an unmistakable, charismatic coolness. She was a top-tier badminton player whose lean athletic build made heavy lifting look trivial. Walking over to Radha’s massive metal trunk, Sam lifted it in one smooth motion and placed it gently near the closet without breaking a sweat.
She turned to Kavya, giving a playful, lopsided grin. “You must be Kavya. Don’t worry, I won’t let Radha’s complaints ruin your afternoon.”
Kavya smiled warmly, her articulate tone instantly captivating. “Thank you, Sam. It’s a pleasure to meet you both. I think Room 304 is going to be quite unforgettable.”
Radha clapped her hands together, eyes sparkling. “Unforgettable? With Sam playing the chivalrous prince and Kavya looking like a poetry book cover, I’m just here to provide the comedic soundtrack!”
