Chapter 1
Subtitle: A sweet, sticky memory of you and me.
A chilled tin of sparkling soda was pressed into my hand, and I murmured a soft, "Thank you."
The summer sun was blazing, a relentless brilliance that bleached the sky. Yet, the instant that frosted aluminium touched my palm, a shiver of pure, reviving life surged through me.
With a sharp click, I pulled the tab. Pshhh-fizzz! A spectacular geyser of crystalline foam erupted without warning, showering me from head to toe, leaving my face and clothes drenched in a sweet, sticky mist.
I’ve been had! They must have shaken that can with all their might before handing it to me, plotting this very explosion the moment the seal broke...
"Ninja Art: The Sparkling Soda Blindfold!"
"Ninin!" the child cried, weaving their fingers into a mystical hand sign, completely swept up in the magic of the moment.
"Don't play with your drinks like that!"
"My bad!" the child chirped, wearing a mask of profound remorse—though I could clearly see a mischievous demon's tail wagging just behind their back.
They will definitely do it again, I thought, letting out a gentle sigh.
Tipping the can, I swallowed the last few drops of cold, effervescent fizz remaining at the bottom. It tasted crisp and bright—the very essence of summer itself.
(The End)
[Author's Note]
The line "Ninja Art: The Sparkling Soda Blindfold!" is a playful twist on famous ninja lore in Japan, specifically Kirigakure Saizo’s Ninjutsu: Mist Concealment Technique (Kirigakure no Jutsu). The hand signs (kuji-in) and the sound "Ninin!" are classic ninja tropes in Japanese pop culture, often mimicked by children when pretending to cast a spell or vanish in a puff of smoke.
