GLASS OF THE EMPIRE: the path of Apathy 2

Summary

People believe in fairy tales because they are terrified of reality. From the pinnacle of the High Council, every living creature looks like nothing more than a tiny speck. Humans tend to pray to those who hold their destinies in their hands. I never had any use for prayers. Not until the very second I imagined how sweet they would sound spilling from her lips. Melissa was forced into this game against her will. She became the Atonement for another man's sin-a tribute I came to collect as the Executioner. My power over her was absolute. But I made a fatal miscalculation, allowing this girl to slip too deep under my skin. Now, the shadows are closing in. Pathetic bastards, blinded by her light, think they can use her to drag me down. Fools. To protect what is branded with my name, I will descend from the summit and personally burn to ashes anyone who dares lay a hand on my Atonement.

Dedication

Dedicated to those whose wings they tried to tear away, failing to realize that even the most fragile butterflies can summon devastating storms.

And to my beta readers, whose eyes were the first to find this world in the shadows, and whose faith helped me breathe life into it.

Hester: Very good, was short too the point , not lingering on the abuse, pity you didn’t let him step in earlier knowing the abuse was happening, but this is almost real for some women who have gone through it, just wish they could all have a princess at te end of thete tunnel

AS: The writing here is clean, polished, and flows so naturally that it was a real pleasure to read.Isla is a great protagonist. Her self-deprecating humor made her feel real (the squirrel's tail and the upside-down trees in the epilogue had me laughing), and her skills as a healer and her growth into h...
