The Last Cadence: A Story of Brotherhood

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

Daniel Reyes, Elias Mercer, and Marcus Bennett are strangers when they board a bus headed for Basic Training. Daniel is nineteen and determined to follow a legacy of service. Eli is looking for a way out of the life he might have fallen into. Marcus, fresh out of high school and tired of being treated like a kid, is determined to prove he belongs. They have different reasons for joining the Army. Different personalities. Different futures are waiting beyond the gates of Fort Jackson. They aren't supposed to become brothers. But somewhere between sleepless nights, impossible standards, sore muscles, bad decisions, and learning to move when someone else calls the cadence, the three strangers become something none of them expected. Family. Basic Training is only the beginning. Life will eventually scatter them in different directions-new assignments, new dreams, love, marriage, children, and years they never imagined sharing. Yet no matter how far apart they travel, somehow they always find their way back to one another. Then the world changes. And everything the Army taught them-and everything they've promised one another-will be tested. Because some bonds are stronger than distance. Some promises survive the impossible. And when one man can no longer keep moving alone, sometimes it takes his brothers to carry him home. The Last Cadence is a story of friendship, service, love, sacrifice, and three men who begin as strangers...and spend a lifetime learning what it truly means to leave no brother behind.

Quenda: Overall a good story. Looks like it is in need of a good proof reader as it contradicts itself at times...but overall a good story.

Xonereth: This was an interesting read for me which I really enjoyed. My grandfather was what you would call a berserker. He was not a very large man but in the great depression he found work in a boxing tent. He only stood at 5 foot four and weighed 140 pounds at best. Men would come up and challenge him bec...
