Chapter 1- Out of Gas
“What do you mean, you’re out of gas!? The tank is on half!” Leah said, leaning over to check.
“What, you don’t believe me? Look, Leah, I’ve been meaning to get my meter fixed, but I wanted to take you out first. You know, show you a nice time. It’s our first official date, it’s bad enough I cancelled on you twice. I knew if I didn’t show up, I’d never have a chance.”
Kai looked over at Leah, batted her eyes, and smiled.
Leah stared at her, slightly pissed.
“So, what now, Kai?”
“We walk, it’s a nice night out and we’re not far from the restaurant, I’m taking you to anyway.”
As they waited in the car, Kai looked down the road; it was eerily quiet. She realized this road looked kind of creepy. There were no other cars, no signs of wildlife, and no street signs. And to add to this misery, she was out of gas and wasn’t sure if she missed a turn or what because there were no signs of that damn restaurant! She was too busy stealing glances of Leah’s legs and how good she looked in her black asymmetrical skirt and cream-colored blouse. She had beautiful legs; they were toned enough that you could tell she’s a runner. Her skin was flawless, not a blemish in sight, just her smooth, chocolate skin. She looked like an unwrapped Hershey bar, and I just wanted to nibble all over her. She was even sexier because she wore these cat-eyed glasses, no wonder I had no clue if we passed the restaurant or not. I should’ve been paying attention to the road and….
“Kai!”
“What!? What’s the problem!? Why are you yelling!?”
“I’ve been talking to you and all you’ve been doing is just staring at me! You haven’t heard a word I said!”
“I’m sorry, sweetheart, you want to know what I was thinking? I was thinking about how delicious, ahem, I mean gorgeous, you look tonight. I really can’t keep my eyes off you. Come on, let’s walk so we can get to the restaurant, eat and call Roadside Assistance.”
Leah sat there with her arms folded, thinking. She finally got out of the car and looked around.
“What restaurant? There’s nothing out here, Kai! It’s just a bunch of trees! I don’t see anything down that road! You want me to walk down this road with no lamp posts, and who knows how many wild animals are lurking? Have you not noticed, I’m wearing stiletto wedges! I can’t walk that far in these!”
Kai smirked at her antics.
“No trust at all, I see. Look, just take the wedges off, hop on my back, and I’ll carry you. Trust me, you’ll like it. Plus, once we get to the restaurant, I can call Roadside Assistance for my sweet ride here. Kai said, as she patted her orange Mustang.
Leah was about to point out the fact that, this “sweet ride”, had them stranded, when she noticed something coming from up over the ditch. There was something yellow moving down the road. She squinted her eyes and pointed.
“Kai, look, do you see that? What’s moving? I can’t see that far.”
Kai turned in the direction of her finger, just as the figure started waiving.
“Hey, over here! Help us!” The figure screamed while helping another figure up.
Leah looked at Kai.
“No, Kai, I already know what you’re thinking! We’re not going over there, and we can’t help! We don’t know what kind of shit they’re in! Kai, NOBODY should be coming out of a ditch, especially at night!”
“Leah, come on, look around. Do you see anybody else on this road? What are we supposed to do? Walk past them on the way to the restaurant? You just stay here and call the police, if something starts to look off, ok?”
Leah shook her head no and said fine at the same time.
As Kai was walking down the long road, she was beginning to have doubts. She wanted to turn back but didn’t want to leave 2 strangers out here alone. As she was nearing the strangers, she had even more doubts. There wasn’t a scratch or injury on them! What were they doing out here? Where was their car? What are they doing coming from a ditch? They just appeared out of nowhere; something was off.
As Kai had closed the gap to the two strangers, Leah pulled out her cell to call the police anyway; she wasn’t waiting for a reason. As she dialed 9 and then the 1, an old Chevy pickup came plowing down the road and ran right into her. The phone shot from Leah’s hand, sailed through the air and landed in the middle of the road in a hundred pieces.
Kai saw Leah’s body sail through the air, but she didn’t believe what she was seeing until she saw and heard her body smash into the pavement. Blood was leaking from her head; her pretty, cream-colored blouse was ripped, covered in gravel and had specks of glass stuck to it. Her beautiful, toned chocolate legs, now had a few gashes in them, and blood was slowly oozing out. Her cat-eyed glasses had skidded in the other direction. Her wedges had been knocked off her feet, nowhere to be found. Kai vomited. This whole night was starting to turn from bad to worse.
“Hey, are you ok?” The stranger next to her asked.
“No! How did he…. not see her!?” Kai whelped, still bent over and vomiting.
“Tracy! Knock her out! We gotta go, NOW!”
Kai didn’t have a chance to look up, she saw a flash of yellow, as the stranger reached back and knocked Kai backwards as hard as she could with her hard arm.
