Episode 1 - The Bump
LOVE BETWEEN TWO HEARTS - Episode 1
Two Countries. Two Hearts. An Unexpected Love Story That Started With A Bump.
It's been five months since Karin Davies changed schools. Her parents never really explained why.
Morning light was already creeping into the Davies house in Cape Town. A.J Davies sat with his tea.
"Good morning, my dear," he said.
Karin was already at the door, dressed in her oversized skating outfit, skateboard in hand.
Uno
"Morning, Dad."
A.J raised an eyebrow. "Where are you off to at this early hour?"
"Dad, remember I told you? Red Bulls versus Black Bulls skating tournament at school."
He sighed. "You know your mom won't like you going out at this time."
"It's a school project, Dad. I have to be there."
"Fine. But Albert will accompany you."
How do I tell him it's not a school thing? It's at the park. If Albert finds out I'm grounded for life, Karin thought.
"Dad, I can take care of myself. I'm a grown-up kid."
"You literally just turned sixteen , miss," A.J laughed. "Fine, I'll let you go on one condition."
"Yes! Thanks Dad, what's the condition?"
"Your mother must not find out about our little secret. Come back before dinner and stay in touch, okay?"
"Love you, you're the best!" Karin grabbed her board and ran.
A.J smiled to himself. "That boyish energy, she takes after me. My little champ."
Just then Suzie Davies walked down the stairs.
"Morning babe," A.J said, kissing her.
"You look stunning. Takes me back to when you walked down the aisle."
"Don't flatter me, A.J. Where's Karin?"
"She went to her friend's house to play."
"Which friend?"
"Erm... the one that stays on Fourth Street."
"Fourth Street? I don't understand, Ajay."
He pulled her closer. "I planned this peace and quiet specially for us. We haven't had it in years."
Suzie softened. "You're right. Maybe we should blow some steam."

Downtown Park, Cape Town
Ajit was fuming. "We've been waiting for an hour, losers! When is that motherfucker gonna arrive?"
"Don't you dare say anything against Karin," Samus snapped.
Yvonne cut in. "Let's just go, Samus. There's no point wasting time with pathetic imbeciles."
"Who you calling imbeciles? Thank your stars Dhruv isn't here else he'll make you sorry," Ashish spat, and both boys left.
Yvonne looked at Samus. "Bashiye bona - ignore them."
"Uphi uKarin, shay'i nyoko!" Samus cursed. He was worried.
"It's okay, something must have held her down," Yvonne said.
"Kulungile, it's fine. But if Karin doesn't show up, then we pullin' up this shit alone, umdongo." Samus walked off to cool down.
Yvonne sighed, checking her phone as Yuri called.
"Hey bestie, how's the competition? Hope you can see your crush Karin in action."
"Geez, stop it. I love Karin, but..."
"Qhubeka ukukhuluma - keep talking."
"Stop it Yuri, Karin doesn't think of me that way."
"Okay ma'am, but tell her before it's too late. Gotta go, bye!"

On the way
Karin's board was wobbling badly. "Iyashelela! I need to get there quick."
A man in his late thirties with a cigarette approached her.
"Erm, mister, can you help me?"
He looked at her board. "Ur board looks like it has seen better days."
"I checked it this morning."
"It's friction. You need a new board. If you go to the competition like this, you gonna lose."
"How'd you know?"
"It's all on the street, son. Go get yourself a new board. Walk down, turn left, you'll see Jonas's Boards and Skating Gears."
"Geez, I forgot my wallet."
"It's okay, son. Even if you look like a girl, I'll give you some money." He pulled out some notes. "I wanna see you win, son."
"Thanks mister, I promise to pay back. What's your name?"
"Call me Jozi. That's my street name."
JONAS'S BOARDS AND SKATING GEARS
Karin rushed in. "Good day mister, I need a new skateboard and some new gears."
The attendant barely looked up. "Yhhh, the stuffs you asked for are over there."
As she turned to pick a board, she bumped into someone.
"Erm, sorry," Karin said.
The girl just stared at her like she was a celebrity.
"Why'd you look so stunning?" Terra Wilson blurted out.
"Pardon, what'd you say?"
The tone is different, the dressing like that of a boy, even likes skateboarding. This is the most perfect tomboy I've ever seen, Terra thought, completely frozen.
"Girl, you're blocking the way, I've got somewhere to be."
"I'm sorry, I got a bit carried away."
Karin shrugged and went to the counter.
"That'll be 950 Rand."
"But I've got only 650 Rand."
"You paying or not?"
Terra stepped forward. "Collate my bill and hers together."
"Okay ma'am, that will be 2050 Rands."
Terra tapped her card. "Withdraw the money."
Karin's eyes widened. "Thanks erm..."
"The name's Terra Wilson."
"Nice to meet you."
"And you..." Terra started, but Karin had already run out.
Terra's brother called, distracting her. When she looked again, Karin was gone. Only a small folded note on the counter: Thanks for paying my bills. I know you might be wondering what my name is. I'm Karin Davies.
Terra smiled, tucking the note away. "You are indeed an interesting character, Karin. I hope to see more of you soon."

25 Minutes Later - Downtown Park Lodge
"Guys I'm here!" Karin shouted, out of breath.
"Took you a very long time," Yvonne said.
"Sorry, my dearest Yvonne, I had some problems with my board."
Samus was sitting with a soda, annoyed. "What's taking Karin so long, the competition is starting in 10 minutes."
Karin walked in. "Hmm, I see you're enjoying yourself."
"Go away."
"A while ago you were missing me, now you're acting different."
"It's because you think everything's a joke. Vula amehlo ako, the odds are stacked against us."
"Lalela Samus, it wasn't my fault. Yekha lokho, ibhodi yami ishelele, I almost got injured. If not for a man who gave me money to buy a new board... I'm sorry."
Samus softened. "Ngiyaxolisa ngendlela engikhulume ngayo kuwe."
"It's okay brother, we're one big family. Let's go win this."
Yvonne clapped. "Uyayikhohlwa into ethile. I'm having a party at my house this Saturday, so I'm specially inviting you guys."
"Ehh Yebo sifuna i party!" Karin and Samus shouted.
"You guys aren't serious, let's go to the park, the party's about to start.
" Hmm, I'm sensing some iparty vibes" Karin and Samus said to each other while holding hands.
" You guys aren't serious , I'm talking about the competition." Yvonne says while folding her arms.

The Black Bulls were legendary. Undefeated icons of Josen High, five-time champions.
Dhruv was smoking, calm. "Who are we up against?"
"Some junior high students," Ashish said.
"The same one that single-handedly defeated the best four?"
"Yes."
"And their ace is a tomboyish girl called Karin. Tell me about her."
"She has fierce eyes, can sense a fake stunt. Mind blowing."
"Are you afraid of her?"
"Nah."
"Let's go to the park and get this over with. Karin..." He laughed.

20 Minutes Later - The Competition Begins
Dhruv looked at Karin and smiled. "You look tensed, Karin."
How does he know that? she thought.
"It's just a competition, so believe in yourself. Who knows you might win this."
Is he encouraging me or playing mind games?
"I'm Dhruv."
"This is the almighty Dhruv? He doesn't look tough, but he's gonna be a threat."
"I already know you," Dhruv said. "But you about to know me better. May the best man win."
"Yhhh."
Yvonne whispered to Samus. "Did Karin just talk to Dhruv?"
PHASE 1: SPEED RUN. RED BULLS VS BLACK BULLS! GO!
Karin drops in first. Fast. Clean.
Dhruv follows, matching her speed.
They finish neck and neck.
PHASE 2: TECHNICAL TRICKS.
Dhruv smirks. "Nervous?"
Karin smiles. "Only when I'm winning."
She lands a kickflip, boardslide, 360 flip - perfect.
Dhruv matches her trick for trick.
"She's good. Too good," Yvonne whispers.
"That's our Karin," Samus says.
PHASE 3: TEAM SYNCHRONIZED RUN
Karin and Yvonne step up together. No words. Just eye contact.
Music starts. They move. Mirrors of each other. Trust. Flow.
The crowd goes silent, then erupts, chanting their names.
The referee stands. Silence engulfs the air. He blows the whistle.
"The winners of this 2026 Skateboarding competition is... The Red Bulls!"
Excitement explodes. They hold the golden trophy as the crowd gives them a standing ovation.
Samus screams, "We did that!!"
AFTER
Dhruv walks up to Karin. "You're good for a junior. See you next tournament, KARIN DAVIES." He walks off.
Yvonne crosses her arms. "He knows your full name."
"He's Dhruv," Karin shrugs, then looks at Yvonne. "We won."
"We did. Because of you."
"No, because we all supported each other."
WILSON HOUSE - NIGHT
Terra looks at the note: I'm Karin Davies. She types on her phone, Googles "Karin Davies Skate Cape Town". Her eyes widen at competition videos.
"Tomboy skater... and she's cute. Driver, give me info on everything about Red Bulls Team."
"Okay ma'am."
DAVIES HOUSE - NIGHT
A.J sits outside drinking. "She's 13, Suzie. She hasn't made much friends. At least we should let her make friends before we drag her to Nigeria."
"She needs to know where she comes from, Ajay."
"And what if she chooses there over here?"
Suzie goes quiet. "Then we let her."
