The Watcher on the Balcony
The Watcher on the Balcony
The night was still, the city’s hum a muted lullaby beyond the glass of my penthouse window.
I closed my eyes, but the image of him was burned into my mind—his tall frame, the broad cut of his shoulders in that immaculate white shirt, the razor-sharp jawline, and handsome, unreadable face. He was the kind of man who looked sculpted from dark marble and pure authority.
The memory hit low in my belly. A sudden, slick heat pooled between my thighs, a warm liquid trailing downward that made me shift restlessly against the Egyptian cotton sheets. Black silk whispered against my skin as I moved—expensive, fluid, slipping over my hips—the friction not enough. Never enough.
I reached down.
My palm slipped beneath the delicate lace hem of my silk nightgown, manicured fingers finding the swollen, sensitive center of my warmth. I let out a low, shaky breath. My touch made my hips roll off the mattress, seeking more pressure, more contact. I knew exactly how to pleasure myself, how my body curve bent under my own fingers, but tonight my self-obsession was entirely consumed by him.
Fuck.
I began to touch myself, my pace steadying as my thoughts dragged him back into the dark with meeting. I imagined what lay underneath that bespoke, tailored suit—a body well-ripped, lean, and terrifyingly powerful, stripped of his usual corporate composure. That perfect, infuriating composure I spent every workday watching crumble just slightly when I challenged him across the boardroom table.
My fingers increased their pace, burying themselves inside my slick heat. My back arched dramatically off the bed, a gasped groan escaping my throat.
The sheer deliciousness of my own unraveling took over my senses completely.
I pictured my hands buried in his dark, jet-black hair while he drove into me, our bodies striking a fast, punishing rhythm. His cool grey eyes darkening with a desperate, possessive hunger I’d never seen him show anyone else. His voice, that low, commanding baritone, breaking on my name.
This was not my first rodeo. I was a woman who knew her worth, her beauty, and her needs, and I handled them with the same ruthless efficiency I brought to everything else. Quarterly reports, hostile acquisitions, and the ache between my legs—all required focused, exquisite attention.
But I would never admit that for months, my private, decadent sexual escapades had been entirely fueled by thoughts of Phil.
My pulse spiked. The coils of tension pulled dangerously tight until my entire body trembled on the precipice.
“Yes,” I breathed into the dark, my fingers working faster, my thighs clenching tightly around my hand.
The sudden, shattering climax tore through me, sending intense waves of pleasure rippling through my core. Every muscle in my body locked tight, held, then released in a shuddering, breathless wave that left me slick and glowing.
A single name escaped my lips in a soft, broken whisper.
“Phil...”
The silence after felt louder than the orgasm.
I lay there, chest heaving, the silk nightgown twisted high around my waist, my hand still pressed between my thighs. The city hummed outside like a bed of jewels. The clock on my bedside table glowed 1:47 AM.
I should sleep. I had a 7 AM flight to New York with him. Eight hours in a private cabin, side by side, pretending I hadn’t just come undone to the thought of his mouth on my throat.
I exhaled, long and slow, and reached for the glass of water on the nightstand.
My phone buzzed.
I glanced at the screen.
Phil
My stomach dropped.
I sat up, the silk pooling in my lap, my fingers trembling slightly as I unlocked the phone. A single message glowed in the dark:
I know you’re awake. Look out your window.
The phone slipped from my hand, landing on the duvet.
I turned my head, my pulse hammering against my ribs, and stared at the floor-to-ceiling glass.
He stood on the balcony.
The sheer drop to the street thirty floors below meant nothing to him. He was leaning against the railing, his crisp white shirt untucked, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, his dark hair messy in the night wind. Even from here, I could see the raw intensity in his gaze, fixed directly on my bedroom window.
He saw.
The thought crashed through me. He saw my silhouette. He saw the arch of my back and the rhythm of my arm. He watched me come undone, calling his name into the dark, and he saw every sinful detail.
I should have been mortified.
Instead, a fresh, wicked wave of heat washed through me, pooling low in my belly, dampening the silk between my legs.
I stood.
My legs carried me gracefully across the cool hardwood floor, my nightgown brushing my bare thighs, my body still humming with the electrifying aftershock of my climax. I reached the glass door, my hand hovering over the handle.
Through the glass, I met his eyes.
The corner of his mouth lifted. Just slightly. That arrogant, devastating smirk he wore when he’d won a high-stakes negotiation.
I slid the door open.
The night air hit my skin, cool and sharp, raising goosebumps across my bare arms and chest. He didn’t move from the railing, just watched me step out onto the balcony, the city sprawling beneath us like a field of diamonds.
“Mr. Phil,” I said, my voice steadier than I felt.
“Phil,” he corrected, his voice low, rough, like he’d been holding something back for hours. “You just said my name in a way that doesn’t deserve a title, Julie.”
My breath caught.
He pushed off the railing and closed the distance between us in two heavy strides. His hand came up, fingers brushing a strand of hair from my face, his touch trailing down my cheek, my jaw, coming to rest at the curve of my neck.
His thumb pressed gently against my pulse point.
“I can feel your heart,” he murmured, his eyes dropping to my swollen lips. “It’s going faster than it did a minute ago. Inside.”
My knees weakened.
“You watched me,” I said, the accusation soft, almost a question.
“I did.”
“And?”
His other hand found my waist, pulling me hard against him, the heat of his body searing through the thin silk. He leaned down, his lips brushing the shell of my ear, his breath hot against my skin.
“And I want to hear you say it again.”
