Chapter 1
“My name is Kara Shepard, the young madame of the Knight family. Everyone thinks I enjoy all this wealth and luxury, but in my heart, there is only hate…”
Kara walked toward the third-floor balcony of the Knight estate with a murderous look on her face. In her hands was a huge vase, and the maids following behind her watched nervously.
Dark clouds covered the sky. Thunder roared in the distance as lightning flashed across the heavens, while heavy rain poured over the estate.
Kara reached the balcony and looked down with a cold sneer just as the estate gates opened.
A convoy of expensive cars drove into the mansion and stopped in the courtyard.
Dozens of bodyguards immediately stepped out, each holding an umbrella. They quickly formed a line around the main car as the man inside stepped out.
It was Lloyd Knight.
The bodyguards immediately raised their umbrellas, shielding him from the heavy rain.
Kara’s body trembled with anger as she stared down at him.
Behind her, several maids entered the balcony, fear written clearly across their faces. They already knew Madame was about to do something again.
“There is only hate…” Kara thought as she glared at Lloyd. “Because I never loved this man.”
She watched with disgust as Lloyd walked toward the building, his expression as cold and emotionless as usual.
Kara sneered.
Then she stretched her arm over the balcony railing and released the vase.
CRASH!
The huge vase smashed onto the ground right in front of Lloyd, forcing him to stop.
Slowly, he lifted his head and his eyes met Kara’s wicked expression.
“Lloyd Knight!” Kara shouted from the balcony. “You rapist! Why don’t you just die?! You forced another baby into me! You’re keeping me from the life I wanted! From the man I truly love!”
Lloyd stared at her without the slightest change in expression.
“Are you done talking?” he asked calmly. “Come down.”
“Never!” Kara snapped and immediately stretched out her hand toward the maids behind her.
One of them quickly handed her another vase.
Kara grabbed it and pointed it toward Lloyd.
“You know why I have morning sickness?” she demanded.
Lloyd remained silent.
“It’s because the mere sight of you makes me sick!”
With that, she dropped the vase.
The vase came crashing down toward him, but instead of moving out of the way, Lloyd simply raised his hand.
BANG!
The vase slammed directly against his wrist and shattered on impact.
A cut appeared across his hand, and blood immediately began dripping, mingling with the rainwater on the pavement.
Kara stared at his bleeding hand and laughed hysterically.
The personal guard holding the umbrella above Lloyd looked worried.
“Mr. Knight, Madame is…”
“Go help Madame down,” Lloyd calmly ordered, dismissing his concern.
His reaction only made Kara angrier.
No matter what she did, Lloyd remained completely unfazed.
She slammed both fists against the balcony railing, seething.
Then she shouted at the top of her lungs.
“I, Kara Shepard, don’t want to be your wife anymore!”
BOOM!
A deafening thunderclap shook the entire estate, answering her vow.
Kara’s eyes widened.
Furious, she grabbed an even heavier vase from the maid behind her and with an angry cry, she lifted it high above her head.
Then a blinding streak of lightning struck her dead-on.
CRACK!
Everyone gasped.
Kara’s body violently shook as electricity surged through her.
Her eyes remained wide open, but her body suddenly went completely limp.
Slowly, she turned around and her body bent backward.
“Madame!”
The maids shrieked, rushing toward her in horror, but they were too late.
“Ahhhhhhh!”
Their screams filled the balcony as Kara fell over the railing.
Her eyes were completely hollow as her body dropped toward the ground.
Lloyd’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.
“No!”
For the first time, panic flashed across his face.
He immediately raised both hands, preparing to catch her before she hit the ground.
The heavy vase slipped from Kara’s hands and fell first, smashing against the ground with a loud CRASH!
Then everything suddenly stopped.
The rain froze.
The bodyguards froze.
The maids froze.
Even Lloyd stood completely still, as though the entire world had been paused.
Kara’s hollow eyes suddenly blinked.
She looked around in confusion. “What…?”
Her gaze moved from the frozen people to the ground below.
Then she looked at herself.
Horror filled her face. “Why am I…?”
She lowered her hands and felt her enormous stomach.
“Why am I hovering in the air?!”
Suddenly, the rain began pouring again as time resumed and reality snapped back into place.
Kara’s body was dragged downward once more, continuing the fall as though nothing had happened.
Terror seized her chest and everything went black before she hit the ground.
