Chapter 1:The Price of a Marriage
"Ma'am, this is the last notice. If you can't pay in 30 days, we'll have to discharge Patient Velasco."
My hands were shaking while holding the bill. $52,000.
Fifty-two thousand dollars. In 30 days.
The nurse at the billing counter looked at me with pity. "I'm sorry Ms. Velasco. Hospital policy."
Mom was in ICU. Stage 3 Cancer. $1000 per day.
I had nothing. No savings. No rich relatives. Just me and my $300 nurse salary.
That night, I was crying in the hospital chapel when my phone buzzed.
Unknown Number: "I can give you $52,000. In exchange, marry me for 1 year."
My heart stopped.
It was Marcus Dela Vega. The CEO I hated the most.
