Chapter One: The Silence of Eight AM
Chapter One: The Silence of Eight AM
At precisely eight o'clock in the morning, Michael was fast asleep in the quiet sanctuary of his room. The apartment was still, bathed in the pale, filtered light of an ordinary morning—until a sudden, violent pounding shattered the calm.
He bolted upright, his heart hammering against his ribs. Throwing open the heavy wooden door, he was met with a terrifying sight. A stranger stumbled into the hallway, gasping for air, his eyes wide with a primal, unadulterated panic.
"Help me!" the man choked out, his voice trembling violently. "They're above us... they've invaded the country!"
Michael stared at him, his mind struggling to process the frantic words. "What?! What are you talking about? Who has invaded?"
Before the stranger could answer, a strange, suffocating sound echoed from the sky outside—a low, mechanical hum accompanied by a beam of pure energy. It had no color, yet it carried an invisible, crushing weight that made the walls vibrate. Without thinking, Michael pulled the man inside, slammed the door shut, and rushed to hand him a glass of water to steady his shaking hands.
With a heavy sense of dread, Michael walked over to the television and clicked it on. He tuned into a major American news channel, expecting a weather warning or a political broadcast. Instead, the screen showed a scene of utter chaos. A pale anchorwoman stood behind her desk, her voice cracking as she stammered live on air, desperately reporting that an unknown extraterrestrial force had breached the upper atmosphere and descended upon major cities.
Before Michael could absorb the sheer horror of the broadcast, something unthinkable happened on live television. A strange, shifting mass—a sickening blend of violet and gray—dropped from the studio ceiling directly onto the anchorwoman. In a blinding, nightmarish flash, her skin turned a deep, burning crimson. Her voice cut off mid-sentence, her silhouette dissolving into nothingness within seconds.
The screen flickered, went back, and the broadcast died.
Michael froze, his gaze slowly shifting back to the stranger in his living room. The man looked up, tears spilling over his weathered cheeks as he whispered in a broken voice:
"My fifteen-year-old son and I were driving down the highway when the sky tore open. A creature dropped down—it had razor-sharp claws, a slender, gray exoskeleton, and eyes fixed straight ahead with terrifying intelligence. It moved like lightning. It used its sword-like limbs to strike my son... he fell to the ground, and I... I had to run. I left him there, believing he was already dead."
