Summary

It only takes one night, one bridge, and one voicemail to shatter someone's world. It takes two voicemails to end a year-long silence. And it takes a lifetime to let go.

The Final Goodbye

Recovered Voicemail

Original Recording: April 2, 2025 – 12:05 AM

Last Heard: April 1, 2026 – 11:59 PM

From: The one who was sorry

For: My Person

[Car horn in background]

“Hey, it’s me. I mean, obviously my name’s in your phone, so you already knew who it was. [Pause] Ugh, I’m rambling.”

[Shaky laugh]

“Anyway, I’m on a walk right now and thought of you. I wanted to tell you that I won’t make our get-together tomorrow... Again... Maybe don’t tell Mom?”

[Muffled sigh]

[Wind whistling]

“The bridge is beautiful this time at night. I can see all the stars. Makes me wish we could’ve taken that late-night drive to the beach. I wonder if they would’ve looked even better at the shore.”

[Pause]

“Maybe one day you could go. Just don’t forget to have some fun for me.”

[A heavy beat]

“There’s just so much on my mind. I haven’t really been doing well lately.”

[Voice cracks]

“I’ve missed you. Makes me wonder if we just talked more, how different my days could’ve been.”

[A shaky breath]

“I know it’s my fault that I haven’t seen you in a while.”

[Broken laugh]

“I hate how this sounds. I’ve gotten so off track. I’m sorry.”

[Shoes shuffle]

[Jacket shifts]

“I guess I should get to my point instead of taking up your inbox.”

[Sad chuckle]

“I just wanted to tell you I love you. Maybe you could tell Mom for me? I just... I hate that I’m letting you down.”

[Wind grows louder]

[Metal railing groans]

[Quiet sobs]

“I have to go now. Just remember what I said, alright? I love you so much.”

[The recording falls silent]

Quenda: Overall a good story. Looks like it is in need of a good proof reader as it contradicts itself at times...but overall a good story.
