Up up and noway
Deep in an enchanted forest, where golden sunlight danced between the trees, lived a tiny mushroom named Button.
Button had a bright red cap covered in little white spots, a soft, fluffy body, tiny brown feet, and the biggest, most curious eyes.
Every morning, he sat on his favorite patch of moss, watching the butterflies flutter through the forest.
Up they went, dancing between the flowers.
Down they came, gliding through the warm sunshine.
Button watched with wonder, his little hands resting against his rosy cheeks.
Oh, how he wished he could fly!
One morning, Button found two big green leaves lying beneath a tree.
His eyes sparkled.
He picked them up, held one in each tiny hand, and stretched his arms wide.
Flap, flap, flap!
His little feet bounced against the moss.
Flap, flap, flap!
But no matter how hard he tried, Button stayed right where he was.
His cap drooped a little.
Then he gave a tiny giggle and tried something else.
Nearby, a fluffy dandelion puff swayed gently in the breeze.
Button’s eyes grew wide.
He carefully balanced it on top of his red cap and waited.
A soft breeze blew through the forest.
Whoooosh!
Up went the dandelion.
Up went his cap!
But Button’s tiny feet remained on the ground.
His cap floated back down and landed crookedly over one eye.
Button blinked.
Then he let out the tiniest, funniest giggle.
Perhaps flying wasn’t so easy after all.
He sat beneath a flower and watched the butterflies dance above him.
Just then, a gentle breeze swept through the forest, carrying hundreds of glowing dandelion seeds.
They floated through the golden sunlight like little stars.
Button lifted his head in wonder.
One tiny seed drifted closer.
And closer.
Until—
It landed right on his nose!
His nose twitched.
His cheeks puffed.
And suddenly…
ACHOO!
Button sneezed so hard that his little cap wobbled!
The glowing seeds began swirling around him in a sparkling circle.
Round and round they danced, carried by the magical breeze.
Button’s eyes widened.
His tiny arms stretched outward.
And then something wonderful happened.
His little brown feet lifted off the moss!
For one magical moment, Button was floating!
He twirled gently among the glowing seeds, his tiny feet wiggling with delight.
A happy little giggle escaped him.
Then the breeze softened, and Button floated back down onto his mossy hill.
Plop!
He blinked in surprise.
Then his whole face lit up with the biggest smile.
Just then, a beautiful butterfly with glowing orange, purple, and golden wings fluttered down from the trees.
It circled Button once before settling gently on his red-and-white spotted cap.
Button went very still.
His enormous eyes looked upward as the butterfly slowly opened its beautiful wings.
A soft, happy giggle escaped him.
As the sun began to set, Button sat peacefully on his mossy hill, surrounded by tiny flowers.
Beyond the forest, distant mountains glowed beneath a pink and lavender sky, and a winding river shimmered in the golden light.
The butterfly rested on his cap.
Button smiled.
He hadn’t flown as high as the butterflies.
He hadn’t reached the clouds.
But for one wonderful moment, he had touched a little bit of magic.
And he had discovered something even more beautiful.
Sometimes, we don’t have to be something different to be part of something beautiful.
The End.
