Almost Yours
She was a quite, shy girl in eighth grade, navigating a completely new section surrounded by unfamiliar classmates. To make matters harder , her best friend had been placed in different section .Despite this, her life moved along peacefully—free from tension, drama, or overwhelming academic pressure. She was entirely at peace, though a quiet loneliness crept in from time to time because she didn’t talk much to others.
One afternoon, while she was silently working at her desk, the teacher began scolding a group of notorious boys in their class. They were easily the most infamous group in entire batch. Attracted by the noise, she eventually turned around.
That was the moment her eyes met his.
He was staring directly at her with a dazed, dreamy look and a soft smile. In an instant, it felt as though a beautiful love song had suddenly burst to life in her head. Confused and startled, she quickly broke eye contact and turned back around within two seconds, trying to convince herself she wasn’t interested. She couldn’t comprehend what was happening or why her heart was racing. No matter how hard she tried, the scene replayed in her mind on a continuous loop. She simply could not forget it.
From that day onward, his signals became impossible to ignore. Every fleeting eye contact sent a wave of nervous energy through her. He never spoke to her directly, but with the help of his friends, he always found a way to bridge the distance. He would constantly try to sit near her, talking loudly to his friends just to catch her reaction, waiting to see if she would look his way. Even though she pretended to be completely indifferent, she secretly wanted to laugh or react. Eventually, she found she could no longer control her growing feelings.
Each day became a beautiful love song dedicated to him. He kept following her, admiring her from afar. Three months flew by, and soon, her friends noticed how he always looked for her, his eyes tracing her movements the second she walked into a room. Her life began to feel like a dream—one where only he and she existed. But if he feels this way, why isn’t he confessing to her? That was the one question she could never find the answer to.
As the year progressed, Teacher’s Day arrived, bringing a chance to create beautiful new memories. During the celebration program, her friends and his friends suggested playing a game of UNO together. Everything was going wonderfully, and the group was laughing and enjoying themselves. At one point, she tried to pick up her bag... she noticed that her bag is stucked with his bag , everyone saw that and starts teasing both of them by saying "RAB NE BANA DI JODI" both were blushing trying to hide their feelings and begin to apart their bags , they finally apparted the bags... their friends tease them by - "Oh no!! divorce ho gyaa!!" her smile suddenly disappeared....
And yess , it did come true - just not in a way they had imagined....
Ninth grade arrived, bringing a fresh start. She tried her best to forget about everything and move on. She was thrilled to find out that she was placed in the exact same section as her best friend again. But life has a strange way of turning things upside down when you least expect it. Her father received a job transfer to new city, meaning she had to leave everything behind and move away. It was an incredibly difficult transition for her. Every time she felt like her life was finally coming together, the universe uprooted her, leaving her unfinished stories behind. Now, she was taking admission into a new school in Raipur, pretending she had forgotten everything about her past.
One and a half months passed by in the new city. One day, her best friend her from her hometown with shocking news. “He has a girlfriend now!!” her friend revealed. A heavy, silent pause stretched over the line. “Oh, okay,” she finally managed to reply. There were no questions, no objections, and no tears from her side. She just gave a sad, quiet smile, her eyes welling up with tears.
She kept every beautiful memory locked away in a small corner of her heart. She cried a little, comforted by the thousands of sweet moments etched in her mind. Everything she had felt was real—she had truly fallen in love with him. It hadn’t just been a passing attraction. It wasn’t the perfect ending she had hoped for, but she accepted it, healed herself, and started anew, focusing all of her energy back onto her studies.
Three to four months later, her best friend called again with another update: the boy had already broken up with the girl. Her friend then reminded her of a detail she had forgotten. Years ago, when they were back in the fourth grade, there was a new student who joined their school. She had liked him way back then, but eventually, he had transferred to another city while she stayed behind. As fate would have it, when he moved to a new city, he unknowingly transferred to the exact same school and section where she was currently in!!
Upon hearing this, she finally gathered her courage and confessed her feelings to him. He accepted her confession, admitting he felt the same way. However, her best friend pointed out that there was a lack of effort from both sides to truly build a relationship, which ultimately led to them parting ways.
“You had a chance,” her friend told her gently. “Seriously, I can say that if you were there, he would have confessed to you. But God’s plan was different. Bro, you can still be together. Try talking to him through social media with a fake account first. Slowly confess your feelings, and then reveal your real name and identity.”
Taking her friend’s advice to heart, she decided to take a break to clear her mind. Let’s see what she will do…..
