INTRODUCTION
The Life We Chose
At forty-two, Arjun Desai has everything money can buy—a thriving business empire, a luxurious home, two wonderful children, and a reputation as one of Vadodara’s most successful businessmen. Divorced and fiercely protective of his family, he has learned to keep his emotions under control and his personal life away from public scrutiny. Love is no longer a priority. Peace is.
At forty, Meera Trivedi has built a beautiful life on her own terms. A successful entrepreneur, a devoted mother of two, and a woman who carries herself with effortless elegance, she has learned to live with the loss of her beloved husband without allowing grief to define her future. She doesn’t need a man to complete her life, and she certainly isn’t looking for another love story.
But families have their own expectations.
Under mounting social pressure and with their children’s futures in mind, Arjun and Meera agree to an arranged marriage. Two strangers. Two complicated pasts. Four children with their own fears, loyalties, and unanswered questions. One household neither adult expected to share.
There are no grand promises of love. No demands to replace the people who came before. Just an agreement to build a stable home and give their families a chance at a fresh beginning.
Yet somewhere between awkward dinners, unexpected laughter, late-night conversations, family celebrations, and the chaos of raising four children together, something begins to change.
Arjun discovers that Meera sees the man behind his impeccable suits and carefully constructed walls. Meera finds in Arjun a quiet understanding that allows her to remember her past without feeling trapped by it.
But falling in love is only half the battle.
Their children must learn that accepting new people doesn’t mean betraying old loyalties. Their families must confront the difference between social expectations and genuine happiness. And Arjun and Meera must decide whether the marriage they entered out of necessity can become the relationship they choose with their whole hearts.
Because sometimes, the most unexpected love stories don’t begin with a spark.
They begin with a decision.
They married because life demanded it. They stayed because love gave them a reason.
The Life We Chose is a mature, slow-burn Indian romance about second chances, blended families, unspoken loneliness, and discovering that it’s never too late to choose happiness—not just for the people you love, but for yourself.

Okay, so right from the beginning, 'The Life We Chose' has such a grounded, realistic feel to it! Arjun and Meera already come across as real people rather than characters built around familiar romantic tropes. Protagonists in their forties, carrying the weight of past heartbreaks and responsibilities while trying to protect their children? I’m already intrigued!
I also love the contrast between Arjun’s guarded, successful exterior and Meera’s quiet, graceful strength. You can sense the loneliness they both carry without them having to spell everything out, but there’s also something beautiful about how they’ve managed to keep going despite everything life has thrown at them.
And an arranged marriage of convenience between two mature adults who aren’t looking to erase their pasts, but simply want a little peace and stability for their blended family? That is chef’s kiss. Juggling four children, dealing with societal expectations, and learning to open your heart again after loss or divorce is no small thing. I’m really looking forward to seeing how you balance those heavier themes with the warmth this story promises.
Bravissima on the introduction, Bunny! I’m excited to see how Arjun and Meera’s journey unfolds. Grazie for sharing your story with us!
