THE HUNTER: A Dark Slavic Folklore Romance (Book2)

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

This is BOOK 2. The Last Daughter of the Wood: THE HUNTER picks up when our poor Alisaveta has finally found her freedom from the Deep Wood Hag and the pious ways of the witch-burners in the crossroads lake communities. Marat, who has finally accepted the death of his brother and that he indeed does not like swimming, has vowed to take her home, even if neither of them knows where the village is or if it still stands all these years later. Will he get her there? Fairy tales say yes, but this isn't quite the ordinary fairy tale.

Author Note | What to Expect

If you are here, I am assuming you came from Book 1, THE WITCH. If not, please return and read that first, or this will not make a lick of sense.

The story is long-running but is split up into five books. All of them will be available free.

For those of you who came from THE WITCH, I have good news for you. They fuck in this one. And once we're going, we aren't stopping. Let's make it good.

PLEASE READ if you are sensitive to certain content, as this is a fantasy romance with dark subjects and heavy horror elements. It gets gross, it gets witchy, and it pulls from some unsavory anatomy (do you know how the angler fish mates? I didn’t either).

This story is grimdark-lite. The world is very dark and at times feels hopeless, but it is ultimately a dark fairytale with an HEA.

Although I started out writing this as a dark romance, I’ve found that the dynamic between the MCs does not quite fit the genre. This is an epic love story and it is messy, dark, full of trauma and mistakes, and overcoming things together. Neither of them is perfect, and they are both broken people who keep going and keep showing up for each other.

Having said that, both are morally gray in the sense that there is not a clearly defined sense of morality, and the story doesn’t give you the good / bad guys, only the people you grow to love and care for. They’re still going to do stupid shit to piss you off.

Fairytales, folktales, and all things witchy and pagan and fun are messy and full of blood, gore, and death. You can expect that.

Here is what NOT to expect, and you can expect pretty much everything else:

-I will not kill a pet

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Here is what to expect:

- A well-developed and deeply complex MMC. I take a lot of pride in writing men that are interesting, realistic, and multidimensional.

-I do not care for beards so he will not be keeping his, but everything in the story is there for a reason and plot relevant. One of these days I’ll get art done for Marat like I have for all my other boys.

-An FMC who copes with humor, is definitely not a Mary Sue, will probably never ever learn to use a weapon (but that doesn’t make her weak), and if she sasses someone scary and powerful, its because she gets nervous in stressful situations and not because she’s that bitch. Sorry, if that’s what you’re looking for, Alisa is not your gal. But she grows as a woman, struggles with things that women struggle with, knows her worth as more than a pawn in a bad world, and does not immediately judge good and evil as black and white. She has sympathy and empathy, loves hard, and is a little pervert when it comes down to that. But she likes thinking of herself as a lady, with the limited knowledge she has of ladylike behavior.

-This is a true slow-burn; prepare for that. Yearning. Lots and lots of yearning. This story has some length and girth to it, and I lose interest in most romances when the couple gets together so there has to be much more to that. Stick around.

-The age gap is 9 years, nothing crazy. Everyone is an adult 28+ once the story gets going and they act like it.

-Yes, it does get filthy when it gets there.

-Yes, you will probably hate me a lot for a wide variety of reasons.

-Characters WILL fuck up, but the main ones will always be redeemed or at least heavily grovel.

Yes, there are tropes you probably hate, but I ask that you trust the author to deliver. Any trope has the potential to be done well.

There are heavy themes of kids and fertility in the same way there are in folklore and fairy tales. This story is not about raising a kid. A kid will not be joining the cast. But much of the subject is included in the lore and events because that is just the nature of everything this story is based on. There are fertility festivals, loss, creepy villagers watching you fuck, a discussion on a woman’s value based on the value of her womb, and discovering that as a woman, you are more than that.

PARIS IN THE DARK

Hester: Very good, was short too the point , not lingering on the abuse, pity you didn’t let him step in earlier knowing the abuse was happening, but this is almost real for some women who have gone through it, just wish they could all have a princess at te end of thete tunnel
