Chapter 1
Adams pov
The most devastating thing about keeping a life-changing secret is that it can come back to stab you in the foot.
“Worthless fool,” My father yelled as he threw the glass cup he held at my head. I didn’t flinch when it hit me, rather I stood still as blood dropped from my head to the marble floor.
His green eyes gazed at me in disappointment. I said nothing, I watched as my old man huffed trying to catch his breath.
Years of being raised under him had taught me one thing.
Never cower nor speak back when he was angry.
According to him, how would he show face to the other mafias in the area if his eldest son was a person who cowered when scolded?
I am afraid of my father though; me staying put was just something I had learned to do over the years of severe lashing.
I watched as my father sat down on the white couch in silence.
I immediately knelt; I glanced to my right. The half-naked escort I brought to my room last night was kneeling already but his leg was bloodied.
The luxurious room turned silent. I could hear the heavy huffs of my father.
He was disappointed in me, he was always disappointed in me.
It’s not like I can control it. He knew who I was and now he was in denial.
The hunger and thirst I felt when he locked me up for 12 days after he found out who I am was like a distant memory that I somehow never forgot.
After that, I hid who I was for years. I assured him that I was now alright and ready to be his successor. I hid this little secret of mine for 10 years, now he knew because of my carelessness.
I narrowed my eyes. No, I wasn’t careless, it had to be him. It had to be Jared, that fool would do anything to be the successor.
“Now Adams, is this your lover or is this just a random whore you picked up off the street last night?” my father asked in agitation.
He brought out a black gun from his pocket. Carl whimpered and I clenched my fists.
Carl wasn’t my lover but he was someone I called regularly.
We were something I would call friends with benefits except I paid his bills.
“Cat got your tongue, Ehn.” My father stared at me as he used his handkerchief to clean the gun he held.
Carl began to cry and I closed my eyes in annoyance.
I had no idea what my fate would be. I didn’t have time to worry about what the fate of the person next to me would be.
“He’s just a friend sir.”
A slap landed on my face, I could feel blood coming out of my gum. He had slapped me with the gun he held.
“Now tell me what I should do with your ‘friend’ Adams.” His green eyes watched my every move, determined to find a mistake so he could beat me up.
“Anything you want to do, Father,” I responded with a calm voice.
“Anything?”
“Anything, Father.”
“You can go,” he said referring to Carl. Carl smiled in excitement. I watched in confusion as he thanked my father.
I frowned, things can not be that simple.
He quickly walked towards the door but before he could pull the handle, a gunshot rang through the air.
My heart dropped. I was no stranger to death, but seeing my father shoot someone who I cherished to a particular extent shocked me.
I watched as his body dropped to the floor and I quickly made sure my face was expressionless.
My father stared at me for a moment then he spat on my face. I said nothing.
“I am disgusted by the very sight of you. You are useless just like your mother.” He paused briefly then continued, “You don’t need to be the successor of Odyssey anymore.”
I raised my head in shock, “Father-
“Don’t father me, Adams. Tell me, what would the other family say when they find out my own eldest son likes Men!”
I shook my head. A thin line of sweat formed on the side of my face. He could do anything to me but he can’t strip me of my right to be his heir.
Without that, I am nothing. I trained all my life to succeed him. I sacrificed so many things.. he couldn’t…he possibly couldn’t.
“They’ll never find out father, I swear,” I said as I crawled closer to him but he pointed his gun at my forehead.
I didn't care though. I pressed my head against the gun.
I would rather die than not succeed my father.
“So what if they don't find out? Do you intend to end the Odyssey family line? I would be so ashamed to face the elders in the afterlife if that happened.“
I stared at my father with confidence laced with fear, “ it won't end with me, I swear on my mother's grave it won't end with me.“
My father's eyes softened but they hardened right back.
He was wavering.
He knew I never used my mother's grave to swear unnecessarily.
“That girl you want me to marry, I'll marry her..I agree. Even if you don't want me to be the heir, we both know that Jared is not fit. My brother is quick to anger and doesn't know when to withdraw; he would send this family to ruins if he becomes the don.“
My father closed his eyes in anger. He knew I was right. Jared wasn't fit to be his heir. I am the eldest son and I knew how to take care of this family.
“Fine,” my father said in anger, “You will be bethroed to Vivian Cross. If she finds out your true sexuality, I will strangle you with my own hands.“
“Yes, Father,” I replied with a gulp.
“Also, Roman will be in charge of monitoring your affairs from now on..Obey him.“
I raised my head in shock. Roman?
Wasn't he that lawyer who occasionally came to the manor to visit Jared. Why am I being monitored by Jared's man?
“Isn't he a lawyer, and the last time I checked, he isn't part of us.“
“Says who,” my father said with a chuckle, “ He is needed precisely because he is a lawyer. It seems you have forgotten you have a pending case in court.“
“Okay, Father.“ I replied in resignation. Why did it have to be jared's man. Why exactly.
