Sandalwood and old paper lingered in the bright living room of the Devathithirat penthouse. Phatsa Ratthanatharin—every bit as graceful as people said—sat curled up on a plush chaise, one hand protectively over his slightly rounded belly. He kept his other hand tightly laced with his mate's. Nakhun—the kind of True Alpha who usually radiated calm—looked frayed around the edges, worry crumpling his usual confidence.
“He reads every parenting book. He has alarms set for vitamins, hydration, even the best angles for naps,” Nakhun said, voice rough with frustration he couldn’t hide. “But this… this isn’t in any book.” His gaze landed on Phatsa, all love and anxiety. “The doctors mean well, but they’re not us. They don’t know what an Enigma pup needs from its Omega.”
That’s why Nakhun reached out to the only people who might: Enigma Hua Yong and S-Class Alpha Sheng Shao You.
Hua Yong seemed to bring the hush of outer space with him, the sunlight softening around his presence. He knelt in front of Phatsa, his eyes deep and unjudging. “May I?” he asked quietly, voice feather-light.
Phatsa nodded, more nervous than he wanted to admit. Hua Yong placed his hand beside Nakhun’s, and the whole room hummed—a note felt more than heard. Phatsa gasped, startled. Not from pain. It felt like meeting a melody he'd dreamed of but never heard awake.
“He’s strong,” Hua Yong murmured, a faint smile touching his lips. “And curious. He listens to everything through you, Phatsa. Your feelings shape his entire world—when you’re calm, he feels safe. Enigmas don’t just feed on milk. They need resonance too.”
Sheng Shao You stood solidly behind his mate, all coiled power and sharp eyes. He offered another lesson. “Every Alpha wants to protect, to build walls,” he said, looking at Nakhun. “But right now, your strength needs to be a filter, not a fortress. Your pup draws energy from everything—even stress and arguments. And you,” Shao You nodded at Phatsa, “you need to learn to channel it. Let Nakhun’s strength flow to you and soften it, turn all the worry and fire into something steady. A lullaby, not a battle hymn.”
He showed them: one hand on Hua Yong’s shoulder, he sent a surge of powerful Alpha energy. As it reached Hua Yong, it changed—bright and sharp turning soft and golden, warm enough to fill the whole room. “See? You translate between his world and everyone else’s.”
The teaching went on. Hua Yong guided Phatsa through meditation, teaching him how to visualize safe landscapes—a quiet forest, a still lake—giving the pup somewhere gentle to rest. He taught Phatsa to hum low, grounding tones that could calm even an Enigma’s turbulent spirit.
At the same time, Shao You focused on Nakhun. “If you feel fear from him, don’t react with aggression,” he said. “You need to be absolutely grounded. Let your scent wrap him up and anchor him. Your bond tells him how the world works.”
Some afternoons were tougher than others. Once, Phatsa jolted awake, shaken by a flood of psychic static that left him whimpering. Before Nakhun could stand, Hua Yong was there. He didn’t touch Phatsa—he just exhaled, slow and deliberate, and the tension dissolved. The air stilled, the chaos faded away. Inside, everything quieted.
“See?” Hua Yong smiled slightly. “Don’t fight the chaos outright. Just offer a quieter option.”
Days went by. Phatsa got better at this. He could sense his son now—not quite thoughts, but flashes: Nakhun’s mint scent meant safety, the pulse of his Alpha heartbeat spelled home.
The day before Hua Yong and Shao You left, Phatsa felt a kick—sharp, resonant, and new. Right after, a pulse flickered through his mind—a feeling that wanted connection. His heartbeat stuttered. Panic tried to creep back in.
Nakhun’s hand was there instantly, steady and warm. The Alpha breathed deeply, and his calm grounded Phatsa, steadying him again. Phatsa remembered what he’d learned, found the feeling of a soft, starlit blanket in his head, and wrapped it around that curious pulse.
This time, the kick was gentler, and then—something that unmistakably felt like contentment. A sleepy, cosmic sigh.
Hua Yong watched from the doorway, pride glinting in his usually mysterious eyes. Shao You stood beside him, squeezing his mate’s shoulder and smiling—gentle for once.
“They’ve got it,” Shao You said.
“They always did.” Hua Yong looked at the new family. “They just needed to see that the real strength here isn’t about having every answer. It’s about learning this child’s language, together.”
Nakhun drew Phatsa close, pressed his lips to his Omega’s temple. Their scents—mint, lotus, and something strange and lovely, something like ozone and morning stars—filled the room. This was no longer a fortress holding back fear. It was something safe and open, built on understanding, ready to welcome an Enigma pup home.
