Summary

Hannah isn’t used to the traditional family life. Her mother left her and her siblings to pursue a life of drug abuse, her father passed away when she was young. The only person who has stuck by for the duration of her life was Agnes, a family friend of her and her mother’s. Hannah is almost 18, living with Agnes in her big house until she graduates. Agnes kindly offered to take Hannah with the help of government funding, because the alternative is she would live with foster parents like her siblings… Their relationship was once thought to be platonic but as of recently has had an undertone of sexual tension.

Chapter 1 — The Beginning

Hannah strolls lazily through the valley of Mossgate, appreciating the lush grasses that sway gracefully in the breeze and the mountains that appear blue from the hazy mists. A few blocks down until she’s at Agnes’s house, back home.

She looks ahead into the narrow alleyway formed from tall oak trees and twisty shrubs.

“It’s only a few minutes from right here, right where I’m standing.” she thinks to herself, gripping the spongy nylon straps of her school bag.

While she could enter the beautiful, elegant English home that Agnes luckily inherited, and be greeted warmly by her favourite person, she reaches for her smartphone from the pocket of her school dress.

‘The Reeves Family’, the bright fluorescent screen reads, the name of her siblings’ new foster parents.

Without another thought, she clicks the call button and waits anxiously as the phone dials.

First, a rustle and a sniffle, then an abrupt, “HELLO? WHO IS THIS?”.

“Oh, hey! This is just Hannah Mercer,”

Silence.

“I’m Alice and Oliver’s sister…”

“Yeah, okay, don’t call us again. Selfish of you to interrupt time that could’ve been spent by children bonding with their new parents. Goodbye.” phone beeps.

another relationship cut off from her — she feels a deep, sinking feeling in her stomach, knowing now she truly has no one but Agnes.

The alleyway path seems straighter than ever now, all she wants is the woman that can offer her the comfort she’s never been offered.

“I need you more than anything right now.”

Hannah gently opens the iron gate, mindfully walking past the boxwood topiary shaped into stylish, sassy swans, the birch trees drooping leaves over the crystal clear waters of the pond, everything feels quiter and peaceful.

She carefully unlocks the white painted door and lets herself in, slipping off her black leather shoes and placing her bag on the freshly polished floor.

“Agnes?”

“Hi, sweetheart.” Agnes lovingly welcomes her, her gorgeous smile reaching her bright blue eyes.

“Hey,” Hannah replies awkwardly, on the verge of tears.

“Are you okay?” *her voice softens as she runs her acrylic nails through Hannah’s dark blonde hair.*

“Yes, I’m okay. Thank you.”

“Why do I feel so nervous around her right now?”

“Okay.” Agnes steps back to sit on the sofa.

Hannah forces a polite smile, before breaking eye contact and looking down at her chipped pink nail polish.

Agnes braids her dark brunette hair as she speaks up.

“I adore you, Hannah. You can tell me anything.”

Hannah looks up and nods.

“I know I can. I just..” she wipes a tear forming in the corner of her eye. “I worry that after high school I will lose contact with you. I don’t have a lot other than you.”

Agnes beams.

“Hannah. You’re my little girl. You’ll always have me.” She plants a kiss on Hannah’s cheek.

“Thank you,” she replies, her voice breaking as more tears flood down her face.

“Come here.” Agnes pulls Hannah into a tight embrace.

The small bust underneath Hannah’s school dress is a stark contrast to Agnes’s perky C cup breasts that press hard against their hug, making it impossible for Hannah to ignore.

“I love you.”

“I love you more, my little girl.”

Kimberly: It's nice to have a great book that you can simply melt into. There's a touch of drama but not so much that it's jarring. There's a touch of spice but not so much that you'd be ashamed at recommending it to your mother. The characters have you both chuckling and rolling your eyes at the same time. ...
