Chapter 1: Midnight Blue
If the color "midnight blue" were a song, it would undoubtedly be "Bir İnsana Geç Kaldım" (Too Late for Someone) by Batu Akdeniz.
In the depths of a day, the Night summoned Blue—instead of Black—to the sky.
"Be the one in my night tonight," it said.
Blue couldn't make sense of this, believing it belonged solely to the day—and told the Night as much: "I don't belong to you; I belong to the day. If I were to enter your night, day and night would blur, and time itself would be thrown into chaos."
"No," the Night replied. "You belong to all times; as Blue, you are time itself."
"But I love the Day," Blue insisted, much like a child refusing to grow up or shying away from responsibility.
"You will come to love me, too—'in time,'" the Night said.
"If I chase after you and enter your night, I’ll be left in the dark," Blue argued.
"But what if, at times, you truly need to be in the dark?"
"I shall always remain in the light. If the day ever comes when I truly need to be in the dark, then I will come to your night."
"I only hope that, by that night, I still want you," the Night said, drifting away from Blue.
Blue felt a pang of sadness; it had wanted the Night to wait—even if it chose not to go along—but the Night did not wait.
Days, weeks, and months passed, and the Night never returned to Blue. Blue realized that it had arrived too late for the Night—and that, just as the Night had suggested, it truly needed the darkness, needed to be left in the dark. For during the day, people harbor such profound secrets, unspoken words, and pent-up anger within themselves that Blue could no longer bear to witness the heavy burden these things placed upon them. She recalled the words Black had once shared with her: "People voice in the darkness all that they cannot express in the light, finding relief in doing so. Though darkness may seem frightening, it serves as the only harbor where many feel safe enough to entrust their secrets."
Remembering this, Blue grew frustrated with herself for having rejected Night’s earlier proposal, and she resolved to pursue him. She ran and ran, yet she could never quite catch up; just as she was about to reach him, Black would appear.
Blue asked Black to pose a question to Night: "Does Night no longer want me?"
Black relayed the question exactly as asked. Night replied, "She always wished to remain in the light; so now, I leave her in that light—just before the onset of total darkness."
When Black conveyed these words to Blue, she began to weep, and the rain began to fall.
Even after these exchanges, Blue could never catch up to Night. Whenever the sky descended into absolute darkness, Night was there—but Mavi had arrived too late.
Ironically, humans named this shade of Blue—seen in the darkness that precedes the pitch-black night—"midnight blue." Yet, despite her deep desire to belong to Night, that opportunity had slipped through her fingers.
