The name Scarlet Nylah was one that commanded respect.
She was a woman whose presence could silence an entire boardroom. Her name appeared on the doors of prestigious companies, her signature controlled millions, and her wealth was enough to secure generations after her.
At thirty-eight, Scarlet had everything a woman could possibly desire.
Everything except a child.
She had never been particularly interested in marriage. In fact, she had spent most of her adult life building an empire rather than searching for a man to share it with. She had watched several marriages crumble around her, and she had convinced herself that she did not need a husband to become a mother.What she wanted was an heir.
Someone who would carry her surname, inherit her properties and eventually take over the business empire she had worked tirelessly to establish.
After years of consideration, Scarlet made a decision that surprised even those closest to her.
She would have a child through in-vitro fertilisation.
IVF.
It was a decision she made independently, without asking anyone's permission or waiting for anyone's approval.
She wanted a child, and she was determined to have one.Her doctor had explained the procedure, the possibilities and the risks. Scarlet listened carefully to every word.
"I understand everything, Doctor," she said, adjusting the expensive watch on her wrist. "I only want one healthy child. I don't care whether it's a boy or a girl. I just want someone who will eventually inherit what belongs to me."
The doctor smiled politely.
"Let's hope everything goes according to plan, Mrs Nylah."
Scarlet nodded.
She had no idea that her carefully planned future was about to take an unexpected turn.
