Mom do i need to really come over for Peggy wedding ...you know I wouldn't even be missed if I'm not there right?
Oh Emily don't be such a party popper, you know every member of our family will be coming ... Even aunt Milly that lives at the end of the earth is coming ....you know how long it's takes to fly in from Australia and you that lives just 8 hours away doesn't want to come... What excuse should I give to your Nana, uncles, aunties... please Emily you can't miss this holiday. My mom replied sighing
I could feel her tiredness from accross the phone. The wedding planning must really be taking a toll on her . I bit the corner of my plumpy lips contemplating if I should really go home for the holiday....as I listened to my mom reminding of 105 reasons why I needed to be present for the wedding.
I was originally planning on skipping this holiday again like the last 2 years ..I was even willing to send Peggy a wedding envelope but my mom's pleading voice just made me rethink .
I badly wanted to give in to her request but the bad memories of the previous holidays just taunted me , I shivered as I recalled the crude jokes some of my family members made of me... Some even called me pretty single Betty and would laugh thinking it was funny...like me being single was funny.
I didn't have a problem with my status... I was living very comfortably, I had a good paying job , even dated a few people but they were never ready to take it to the next level.
And somehow that's my fault I guess because I couldn't force them to put a ring on my finger.
Emily are you there???
I blinked I had gotten lost in my trance ....yes mom sorry I got lost in thinking I replied putting the phone on speaker while I grabbed a bottle water from the refrigerator.
Oh baby please rest... You overwork yourself too much.. please think it through baby.... And don't let us down and oh least I forget Jared is coming home for the holidays too..
Jared....I asked shocked trying to silence my racing heart.
Yes honey....we were as surprised as you, I thought you guys still keep in contact....
Not really mom .... We lost contact
Then you guys have some catching up to do then during the holidays......
I haven't agreed to come mom..
Oh I know you will. Bye love ....my mom cut of the call but I couldn't I could sense the teasing smile on her face.
Oh now this holiday is bound to be more embarrassing....how could she face Jared , her childhood best friend and first love who she had embarrassed herself for in front of the whole neighborhood.....
