Today I met my younger self
Today I met my younger self.
She didn’t cry. She didn’t laugh
when I told her everything.
She was just playing with her kitchen set
and letting Missy, her old toy dog,
taste her meals of plastic eggs and pancakes.
She didn’t ask who I was.
She simply grabbed me by the hand.
She asked about Mom, Dad, and Gucci.
She only looked sad when I told her
that Gucci was in Heaven with God
and that Aunt Karen had joined them there.
She asked if I had met my prince.
I told her that I hadn’t met him yet.
Then, she asked if I was in a movie.
I simply told her yes,
but it was only a minor role.
I told her about how I met God
and how I loved Him,
and how he helped me through the hard times.
She asked if her sissies were still around.
I explained that they were both busy with life.
She asked about the little, blonde-haired girl,
her best friend, from down the street.
I only told her she had moved away, but
did not disclose why. Kids wouldn’t understand.
She frowned, so I added that she must spend her
time wisely and never again talk about growing
up. When asked why, I said simply that she
would regret it for the rest of her life.
