Chapter 1
I woke up to the sound of the vines next to my tree house rustling. Clutching my pocket knife, I sprang out of my hammock, ready to jump anyone who tried to attack me.
I waited patiently as my eyes adjusted, carefully not to make any sudden movements that could alert anyone to my position. Slowly creeping towards the entrance I relaxed my hand still unsure if the rustle was a threat or just the wind.
Another noise erupted, but this time from the floorboards. Clenching my hand tightly around the blade, I turned to face it. I felt a body come behind, resulting in me turning around quickly, twisting their arm behind their back, and holding my knife firmly to their neck.
“State your business,” I spit into their ear.
They didn’t reply, only showed their elbow into my gut, causing me to release them as I stumbled backwards, coughing up a storm. My legs were swept up from under me, and I was sent barreling down to the floor. Before I could even think of getting up, they pinned me to the ground.
A chuckle rang through my ear, “A little jumpy are we?”
Wait, I recognized that voice.
“James?”
“Who else would it be.”
I shoved him off of me, and got off the ground.
“What do you want?”
“I come bearing news,” he proclaimed matter of factly.
“Of what?” By this point I was rather annoyed.
“Hook is dead.”
My jaw nearly hit the floor.
“As in Captain Hook.”
“Who else do you know named Hook”
“Who killed him.”
“You already know.”
Pan.
“And now,” James said, continuing my statement, “The Watchtower believes he will come for us.”
That’s the thing about Pan, he always comes for his enemies, he always came for them, and the Watchtower especially was top on his list.
“What does this have do with me?”
“Lizzie, we want you back.”
"No, never, not in a million years."
"Why?"
If only he knew.
