Chapter-1
I finally opened the book- Finally; after a lot of waiting.
Amanda's POV:-
"Amanda! C'mon! Wake up! You have to go to that weird place for no one knows why. Now c'mon, Fast!" Cherylene yelled from the kitchen.
"Ugh! Who made this stupid place?! Whoever got the idea of making a place like this, is the biggest idiot of his era! School sucks man." I yelled back.
I was a sophomore in the college. Even though I was just a sophomore, I used to think of a life after the graduation.
I sprung up from my bed, making my way to the connected bathroom. I brushed my teeth, took a quick shower and changed into a comfortable outfit for school.
"Bye roomie. Will meet you after school!" I said to Cherylene.
"Uh, I'm going to Chad's in an hour and I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. Just call someone at home and chill. You can use my Netflix if you want, babe."
Chad was Cherylene's best friend. At first he developed feelings but Cherylene rejected him saying that she doesn't prefer dating. People generally think that rejection is a way of ending relationship of even best friends. But here, it turned different- they became the closest and most best of friends, totally inseparable.
"I don't wanna sound nosy or something but you usually go to Chad's home for special occasions ya know? Like you guys usually meet at Starbucks or something for just hangouts. So what's the special occasion hmm?" I questioned suspiciously, wiggling my eyebrows. She laughed.
"Oh. You notice a lot. Anyway, Chad's long lost friend is shifting here, in LA. I don't know anything about him, Chad wants me to meet him to be friends with so that I don't feel awkward during parties or casual hangouts." She explained.
"Oh, cool. I don't actually have many friends in school so I'll just study and then borrow your netflix. I have to finish 13 Reasons Why asap." I looked at my watch. It showed 7:15. Crap.
"Cherry, I gotta go- I'm late. Bye. Love ya!"
"Bye. Love you too!" She yelled.
I reached school in time. I went to the locker section to keep my bag and books in and headed to my first class, English.
I always payed extra attention to English because I had a major love for Journalism. I'd always wanted to become a journalist. My mom was a News Anchor and my dad used to work in a publishing company.
Now you might be thinking why I used past tense everywhere: right guess, an orphan. When I was eight, my parents died in a terrible car crash but I survived. My parents always used to give me extra protection and care, but they forgot to keep themselves safe that night and look what happened. The neighbors sent me to my granny's house in Miami, Florida. When I turned 15, I came to LA. I've always wanted to live alone or with a fun roomie. My uncle found an extra room in Cherylene's house and since then, I've been living here with Cherylene. Though it had only been two years, we had a really strong bond. I considered her as my best friend. Having your roommate as your best friend has it's own perks, baby.
Finally the first half ended. I went to the lunch room and ended up meeting my best and greatest friend aka my bully, Claire. Great, just great.
"What's up yo, ugly face?" She smirked at me.
I just ignored her and started walking away. Suddenly, I tripped on my own shoelace. That's me babyy. Always clumsy.
"Did your parents never teach you how to walk? Oh wait, she doesn't have parents. You used to live with your old sweet "granny", huh?" Claire laughed at me. How dare she- but i've been over it. 'Just ignore, walk away, No one should know how vulnerable you are.' I thought.
But even if try to confront, I was speechless. I always used to break down when I used to hear about my parents. And so even after trying no matter how much, I did. I quickly stormed to the girl's lavatory and started crying.
But wait, who told her about my parents? Only Granny and Cherylene knew about them. Guess I'd have to find out soon.
"Um- hey? is someone there?" A girl asked from the other side of the door. I quickly wiped my tears with a tissue and adjusted my skirt. I opened the door.
"Uh- hi. Were you, um, crying?" She asked nervously.
"Hi, no, I'm fine." I replied.
"Oh. by the way, I'm Nicole. Nice to meet you." She smiled. I could sense her confusion since my voice almost sounded broken.
"I'm Amanda. Nice to meet you too." I replied smiling, too.
"Do you wanna hangout sometime? I um- heard that little bullying in the cafeteria. I totally understand how it must be feeling like... It would be nice to have a friend." She asked, again nervously.
"Oh yea sure! Would you like to come over after school at my? I don't have anyone at home today." I offered her remebering what Cherylene had told me.
"Yes sure!" We exchanged numbers and goodbye's.
I headed to my locker to take my backpack and books. I saw my personal journal in the locker with a note sticking on it, which said:-
Bye, you idiotic loser.
~Claire
Now it all made sense. Claire must have read my personal journal. I sighed and went for my next class.
Soon, the school got over. I started walking towards my car, got in and drove back home.
The day was kinda normal. I was bullied but on the other hand, I made a new friend, Nicole.
I locked the door. The house was empty as told by Cherylene. I literally threw my backpack on the floor and jumped on my bed. As soon as I laid down, I fell asleep. Nicole would come in an hour, for which I had a little time.
