A Very Short Story
A Very Short Nature Story
I love my garden. It is my refuge from the insanity of the world outside. In here I find peace and balance. There is such beauty in my garden. From the tones of green to the exuberant blossoms I find a harmony of color and fragrance.
Although I rarely invite people to share my garden, I have visitors. Rabbits have found a way in, and of course birds and insects visit at the slightest excuse. I even have regular inhabitants who never leave my paradise.
For example, in one corner of my fence there is a stunning spider web. I never cease to marvel at its symmetry and strength against the elements. Occasionally I trap an annoying insect and place it on the web. Its struggles calls the web’s owner, a magnificent black and yellow creature. The spider scuttles out to its victim and soon it is gone. I consider it my offering to the artist who created the magnificent web.
This morning I discovered a new treasure. Attached to the bark of my oak tree was the hollow shell of a Locust. After consideration, I took it to the web and carefully placed it in the exact center. Then, using a leaf, I tapped the web, calling forth my fat friend. She hurried out looking as excited as a spider can, her compound eyes aglow with anticipation of a fat feast. I hoped she enjoyed the Bug Lite.
