Prologue

Lily ran through the forest. Who or what exactly she was running from was unknown, but she continued running. But then, she immediately tripped and fell. But luckily, the palms of her hands broke that fall, despite feeling uncomfortable; otherwise she would’ve landed on her nose and chin. Upon pushing herself back up, she looked around slowly and leaned left onto her back. There was no one else around (or at least, there was nobody else visible), but that didn’t stop her from trembling. After getting back up on her feet, she looked around again — and continued to tremble. She could barely move and couldn’t even catch her breath. Her heart pounded against her rib cage as she sensed something. Right then and there, she saw the unknown assailant — and screamed.

A haunting small-town mystery where buried secrets and betrayal deepen the suspense. The emotional fallout makes the disappearance feel dangerously personal.
