"Among the other heart-damaging dark romance novels, this book is a nice breath of fresh air, since it's a story that seems so real, with all the perfect imperfections that life offers to normal people. ✨️ The first few chapters immediately won me over with this exes-to-lovers tension and energy. 🔥 Still, even better than this was Justin's character and aura that made me unable to control my bursts of laughter, he's totally killing it. 😂👑 He's way too funny and adorable! The second-best part of this hilarious aspect is the chapter's comments, which display countless ways to get rid of Amy for good. 😈 That pacing tension between Katie and Cole which makes the air heavier around them gets me angrier with each paragraph, yet I love it too much. This stubbornness to have strong feelings towards each other, yet to let the ego and uncertainty win over, while letting things remain unsaid and unclear, is just the perfect way to build the much-awaited spice. Just the opposite of plain and boring. After the slow ignorance, the lip-biting teasing with that smug attitude feels exactly as it should, before things get too emotional and heated. 🔥 With all the pressure that gets so much on my nerves (but in a good way), somehow things are a little better around the halfway point through the book, since some of the built-up walls and regrets are starting to come down, layer by layer slowly. As the much-awaited moment finally arrived, the profundity behind all the uncertainty is perfectly explained through the author's note, totally understanding the "nostalgia, regret, hope, fear, longing" and "replaying memories that make you feel happy and sad at the same time". I don't want to spoil it, but even though there is someone's main fault for their separation, I feel sorry for him, too. It can't be easy to fall for someone who doesn't share the same feelings. 😪 I usually like it when the story is presented from the author's POV, but being inside people's minds, clearly understanding their feelings and actions, while I, as a reader, am an outside observer, yet totally caught in their story and feel all their vibes... this is priceless! 🤍 From other books, what stands out to me in this one is this big group of friends and history, instead of just the main couple. Plus the unsuspected plots, especially the dangerous ones. 🤯 I can't forget that surprise that got me like "WHAT!?", after Matt came along and Katie had that moment on the sofa; so sudden, yet so gooood! 🤫 How cruel from the author was it to unexpectedly bring that up, then raise the romantic difficulties till we couldn't take it anymore, and lengthen it to so many chapters. Yet, the bigger the frustrations, the greater the feelings of reconnection. ✨️ Besides the main attraction between Cole and Katie, with the lurking suspicions from Amy and Nick, I would like to take a moment to appreciate Sally's and Matt's relationship. Cole is the hot guy we obviously fantasise over for so many reasons, yet Matt seems the guy we really dream of having in reality. So thoughtful and caring, while adapting and fitting in so easily with their group and perfectly supporting Sally with his pure presence and light touch, he really shouldn't be underestimated. 😍🥰 Long story short, this story that is so relatable to real life angered me beyond words, filled me with frustrations I never had, cracked me up with stomach-ache laughter, softened me and made me melt on more occasions than I would like to admit (especially during the heartwarming confessions or the "Kitty" nickname spoken with that seductive tone 🫠). The ending gives me that "I feel so happy for all of them" vibes, and the book definitely deserves the maximum score and wide recognition, just like all the books from our precious author, E.G. Patrick! 💜 "

"I really enjoyed this story. I liked the complexity and history of the characters in this book. Katie and Cole’s story was lovely. You could feel the tension and chemistry between them for the very beginning. I loved the little bit of OW drama chucked in with Amy. Its my fav trope so I was totally here for it. I loved the different POV’s as it really helped to see how far these guys go back and the dynamics of this friendship group. Theres twists and turns which make for a great story. Thank you. Can’t wait to read more of your work."

"The story is blowing my mind So far the relationship between Katie and Cole feels like the real deal not just a book version of chemistry it has many layers The friendship part also is like in real life, very different characters come to our lives and friendship blooms and betrayal is part life so I'm loving the realism of this story. "Back to Before has pulled me in immediately. At Chapter Seventeen and can't wait for more. The chemistry between Katie and Cole feels real, layered so it's believable, and emotionally charged in a way that keeps you turning pages long after you meant to stop. The tension, unresolved history, and small moments between them are written so naturally that you can feel every glance, every misunderstanding, and every emotion building beneath the surface. The atmosphere of the story STANDS OUT. The cottage setting, the friend group dynamics, the humor, awkwardness, jealousy, and nostalgia all feel authentic and relatable. It captures that bittersweet feeling of returning to people and places that once meant everything to you. The writing is emotional without trying too hard, and the dialogue feels believable. I can hear them and see them. A book does it job when I can do that. Every chapter leaves you wanting just one more because you need to know what really happened between them. I found myself talking to the pages. Yes, it's true. If you enjoy feeling things, wondering, excitement and like to laugh, this is your book. It's romance with tension, heat, heart, friendship drama, and characters who just make you feel, everything. That's what I look for in a romance and of course the SPICE.
