Prologue: The Cage We Choose

The rain in London didn’t just fall; it stained. It washed over the cold stone of the Blackwood estate, slicking the cobblestones like oil. Inside, the only sound was the haunting, erratic weeping of a violin.

Elena Vance didn’t look at the man watching her from the shadow of the velvet drapes. She didn’t need to. She could feel Julian’s gaze like a physical weight, tracing the curve of her spine, the frantic pulse in her throat, the rhythmic movement of her bow.

But as his dark eyes locked onto hers, Elena felt the terrifying truth echo in her chest: the cage was locked, but she no longer wanted the key.
