Chapter 1

Jamie's POV

..

I was running so fast away from this man, from that dark neighborhood, I just wanted to disappear.

My arm is broken and bleeding, kerosene is dripping from my clothes.

"Honey, there's no escape, it's time for you to go."

I found an old gas station on the highway, I ran towards it quickly and tried to open its door, but it didn't budge.

" please please " I screamed at the door until I felt strong arms around me, and a handkerchief on my nose, not making me breathe, I was beginning to hear the fire engines approaching. "It's for your good, Jamie, you were the bravest of them all, so I'll give you a quick death."

I began to inhale that stench from the handkerchief, and I could no longer feel my legs, my body began to relax.

"Remember Jamie, Hell lives among us, we just don't see it."

..................

" Ugh "

I woke up on that ugly nightmare, it felt so real, my body is Shaking still.

My alarm is begging me to wake up for a while now.

" Shut up "

I said closing it, then I remembered, I have work on that café in the city nearby.

" Oh shoot I'm late "

I said standing up quickly changing my clothes, grab any leftover sandwiches on the dining table.

Then I ran outside closing my doors.

" Good morning Jamie "

Someone said while I'm walking fast away from the neighborhood.

" Morning Mr. Bradley "

I said trying not to look at anyone as possible, he is still following me.

" I'm sorry Mr. Bradley, I still don't have any money to pay rent for now, but I assure you, I'll pay tomorrow, please "

I said after I stopped walking to look at his face.

He has pissed alright, but he also was checking my body which made me close my jacket.

" You can pay any time baby, I just want to invite you to a welcome party at my house, everyone in the neighborhood will attend for sure "

He said and I scratched my neck.

" For me? You don't have to, I, I'm fine by myself, I'm not really into parties "

I said trying to end the conversation to leave but he grabbed my hand which made me stop.

" Please, Jamie, your neighbors want to meet you, they would be pissed if you didn't come "

He said in such a creepy way, I looked around me I saw the neighbors looking at us from afar.

" Y, yes, sure, I'll come "

I said and he let go of my hand finally with such a wide smile showing his dirty teeth.

" See you tonight, Jamie "

He finally left, and I ran from here.

The way he says my name, Ugh, I want to vomit.

Finally, I made it to the café after taking the train, Mr. George Welcomed me.

" Hello my shy friend, you're late for half an hour "

He said while he is happy to deduct 5$ from my salary.

" Sorry Mr. George, life happens "

I said while taking my shift wearing my apron.

" Well, don't forget to close the Café doors well after you leave "

He said that then ran outside, I sighed preparing some coffee for me waiting for any customer to come.

" Leave, you killer! Don't show your face again! "

my hands flinch as I remember my mother's words before I leave my house.

" Hah, I couldn't find a lower rent for a place, I'm glad no one broke into my home yet "

I laughed as I drink my coffee, the doorbell rang so I paid attention to the door.

A decent person is wearing a brown suit as he wearing glasses, holding a book in his hands.

" Welcome sir, do you want to order now? "

I said with a big smile as I could do.

He smiles a little then looked at me.

" Black coffee please, no sugar "

He said then He stood Infront of the counter.

" Right away sir, you can sit while I'll preparing your order "

I said as I turned my back to prepare his coffee.

" Such a beautiful young woman as you, why are you working a part-time job? You look like, a college girl "

He asked me, from the way he talks, I can say.

" Are you a doctor sir? A professor perhaps? "

I asked in return giving him a side look.

He is amazed opening his mouth a little.

" Yes, I'm a professor at the university, I teach, mental illness awareness "

He answered and I put his order Infront of him.

" Wow, that's cool, your order sir "

I said as I pointed at his cup.

He didn't look at it at all, just kept looking at me.

" You didn't answer my question "

He said, completely serious, I smiled nervously.

" Well, I dropped college a year ago, that's why I work here, but I like this place actually "

I told a lie, the whole city is freaking me out, maybe because I just moved here.

" Are you alone? "

He suddenly asked looking behind me with his eyes without moving his head, I was hesitant to answer as I don't know why he is asking.

" My boss is sleeping in this room so, no I'm not"

I said raising my shoulders a bit so I drove away from the nervousness.

" Well, let's meet another time, my lady "

He puts some cash on the tray before he leaves the café.

" Excuse me, Sir, you forget your coffee! "

I said while seeing him already left the café.

I took the cash which is more than I should take.

" Mm, huge tip? Okay that's, kind of him "

He sympathies with me maybe.

I can pay this month's rent with that.

...............

Many customers came after, and finally, the o'clock telling me it was 1 AM.

My time to leave.

I got out of the café closed its door well then someone called me.

It's A private number.

I don't answer any unknown number so I decided to ignore it.

Then there are suddenly three messages nonfiction.

" Why are you ignoring me? "

" Answer me, JAMIE? "

" You look cool in these blue pants "

He suddenly texts me that which made me stop walking looking around me.
