Chapter I

I

It was a cool weekend evening. Ankit was sitting on his balcony overlooking the open fields in front of his apartment complex. Some teenagers were playing cricket there. Seeing them a wave of nostalgia hit Ankit reminding him of the days when he used to play with his friends every evening. He missed those days, corporate life had sucked joy out of his life it seems.

There was little daylight left and it seemed the kids were playing their last match. Ankit got up and decided to go into his room. There was a cold breeze blowing and since his flat was on the top floor, the effect was strong.

“The weather is good, I should probably take a walk. Will come back and do the household chores.“, He thought to himself.

Within minutes, he put on his track pants and a sweatshirt, grabbed a jacket and his shoes and went downstairs. He decided to walk within the complex as there was some construction work going outside the apartment.

It started with a relaxed stroll and then eventually culminated into overthinking about life and it’s various problems.

“I wish I could control my thoughts”, he chuckled to himself.

After going around the campus for 4-5 rounds, he decided to head back to his flat. It was dark now.

“It feels very calm today, like a certain type of calm you feel right before a storm”, he thought.

Dismissing that thought, he opened the door to his flat. His roommates were now awake from their afternoon sleep. Vijay was sitting on the sofa reading a book and Dhruv was on the balcony lighting a cigarette.

They were his colleagues but with time they had become friends with each other.

“It’s been over a year since you brought that book Vijay. How long is it gonna take you to finish it? ” Ankit laughed.

“I have been trying really hard to finish this but i always fall asleep after reading 2-3 pages”, Vijay responded.

“GUYSSS, YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS”, Dhruv shouted from the balcony.

The two guys rushed to the balcony and asked him what was the matter.

“Look up, what’s that?“, Dhruv exclaimed

Ankit looked in the direction Dhruv was pointing and his eyes fell upon a shape floating in the dark sky. A shape everyone is familiar with.

It was a triangular object in the sky.

SandyN3K: Excellent writing, as always.
