Prologue
Denice Asha Jones was born on July 25, 2007. According to her mother, Monika Nwango, "She was a child that looked exactly like her father and had a sister that looked just like me, her mother." Ms. Nwango named her older daughter Cleopatra Nandi Jones. But here's some sad news: Ms. Nwango divorced Dior Jones, the father of her daughters, and Ms. Nwango got her last name back through a court process. Mr. Jones got custody of Cleo, and Ms. Nwango got custody of Denice.
The two sisters would never see each other often, but they always visited each Saturday. But each week would turn into months, and then they rarely visited each other, because Ms. Nwango found a new husband. But Denice thought her new stepdad was a cool guy.
Denice wouldn't call him dad yet, though. She would never want to replace her dad with Mr. Kurt, her new stepdad.
